The Martin vs Taylor Thread

most the time people think taylors are easier to play. i own a 414ce and my friend owns a 410 and they sound pretty good but martins are uber sweet, im selling my 414ce and buying a hd-28v asap

I guess im being harsh on the taylors, it was still a great guitar, but martins seemed so much better FOR ME, but the point of me posting this was that i think a lot of the memebers here just go by name brand, why else would you be considering either a taylor or a martin? they just seemed so different to me there shouldne be a debate.

i really want to try a larivee, kahn has been wearing me down slowly.

i dont care about the herringbone i think it looks ok, but the 1/4" forward shifted scalloped bracing on the hd-28v makes me poop myself it sound so good, its like the brown note from south park

Larrivee do it, do it. It all depends if you want a dread or a more grand auditorium style, or a jumbo, but my OM-09FM is their patented shape (similar to a x14 Taylor's shape, but better) and I find it packs more punch than any dread I've played. The Dreads are booming. And the Jumbos...
I struck an open G chord and it blew the luthier against the wall and ripped off his shirt.

At this point, I've only played a few guitars nicer than my guitar, one of which is an HD35, the others are more expensive Larrivees.

Hmmm... I really love playing my Taylor. I was looking at the 300 series when I bought mine and comparing it to the simalarly priced Martin's. I thought at that price level the Taylors sat better on MY lap and had a much fuller sound that the similar Martin's.

I haven't played the 700 series of equvalent Martin's yet because then I'll want one...so, when I do I'll let you know. But as for the 1K-2K range, Taylor all the way.

The L body is Larrivee's "patented" shape based off of the general shape of classical guitars. The OM's are pretty close size wise to Martin's OM. As with nearly all of Larrivee's guitars they both have the symmetrical bracing that Larrivee is well known for.

So why might I ask does it seem like everyone is looking between these two brands when they are so different?

I know when people say they can't decide between x Taylor and x Martin that more than likely they are shopping for a headstock. If Dave played a bunch of Gibsons and Larrivees you'd probably see alot more people saying I can't decide between x Gibson and x Larrivee.

I voted Martin but personally I wouldn't spend 2k on a factory built guitar. I'd start looking at smaller shops and individual luthiers even if I had to come up with a little more cash.

sorry, i've always been the guy who said I was too horrible for a nice guitar so I never learned about good guitars, what makes them better, and what guitars are actually good.
