Gravel in your shoes may be diamonds, but it hurts anyway..
I'm not voting, i just wanted to critique them all cause if you guys are like me, you'd like to hear what people think instead of getting a vote.
average man - i like the flow of this song. the progression is really simple but it flows so well. i don't like the double vocals though. you have a good voice, the double kind of ruins it imo.
Empty room – full band…nice.
the music is great but I don’t really care much for the vocals, they’re kind of quiet and off key a lot. But I really like the reverb at the end of some of the verses. It fits well. The chorus kind of reminds me of grunge rock unplugged or something. The music is really good though.
New Year’s eve - I’ve heard this before mitch and I’ll repeat what I said last time. The mixing on this song is so amazing it sounds like one guitar doing a hard ass piece. Great stuff.
Tomorrow’s yesterday – I think you used too much reverb on your vocals. But it makes you sound kind of like elliot smith. I like the progression and the lead guitar is really good, nice mix. Your vocals trail off key a few times, you should try to project your voice more. I really like the guitar part to this. Good solo too.
Blind Folds – I like the progression a lot. You have a good voice and it sounds like you like to use it to its max. I like the change. Matter of fact I think the song improves 100% after the change. The only thing I don’t like about it is how long it is. I do the same thing, I have a huge problem w/ making my songs way too long. But it’s enjoyable enough to listen to for all 6 ½ min
Forceful grip – i love it man...a lot. the electric and acoustic really compliment each other a lot. the electric solo was a bit too much, maybe toned down just a hair it would fit perfectly. it was still very enjoyable. your voice is pretty badass. you do a great job on the vocals. ooh, key changes
nice transitions. wow, i liked it...a lot.
The waking hours – that second chord is badass. I like the delay on the lead guitar a lot too. Your vocals are really good. The whole song is done very very very well. Not really my type of music, but I definitely like it a lot.
Coldest night of the year – I know you’ve probably posted this, but I don’t know I’ve heard it. I always feel like I’m saying the same thing over and over about your stuff, but it always holds true. Cool interesting Bob Dylan like voice, good lyrics, good progression. I like it a lot

I got to say, this is the best contest we've had, alot of talented people showed up. I posted my reviews below, but I'll probably change them once lyrics are posted for the songs(mabey we should start a thread for that?)Well here are my critiques:
Kenny Clark (Longleggedfrog)-Average Man:
good song, and great recording too. I like the vocals, but everything sounds like it is double or triple tracked. I like that double tracked sound sometimes, other times not so much. Reminds me of a happy elliot smith. Cool guitar playing, nothing over-the-top just how I like it.
Chris Backstrom (CBAlvarez)-Blind Fold:
I really like the vocals and the main progression. The transition from verse to chorus seems to be a little too sudden. The song is a little too long though, but it still holds my attention pretty well. The melody in the chorus is good, but I feel like you should switch back to the other part sooner.
Tom Cadaret (juineaux)-coldest night of the year:
don't even get me started on this song, what a loser...
Adam W- The Waking Hours:
I feel like I just walked into some random bar in a foreign country, looking at all of the pretty ladies who seem interested in me, but I know what their real jobs are....sorry but your song gives me that image. I really like this song, it has a great groove and the eirey electric guitar really pulls this thing a long. You sound like a cross between jack johnson & Tom waits....weird combo, but very cool. This is the most original of the group for me.
Nick (Maxpower00044)-Forceful Grip
wouldn't play
Mitch (Appfro)-Dignity:
neat riff, I like how the electric & acoustic play off of each other. The vocals are good, but you need a better recording....I think the vocals sound very muffled....try cutting some of the low mids, and boosting some of the highs(around 4-5khz), step back from the mic a little bit, and add some compression. You've got a great voice, but the recording isn't bringing it out. I think this song could really rock out if drums & stuff were added, but it does hold up quite well on its own. Great job-
micah (freshead16)-Tomorrows Yesterdays
Hey cool, I think you have the best sounding recording of the group. The vocals are nice and up-front, but the guitar is not lost and everything sounds full. You have a good sense of when to sing and when not to sing(leaving those little instrumental parts between lyrical sections). You have a great voice, but I don't know if you need the double tracked vocals either. The melody is nice, and pretty catchy-
Jonathan Bietz (coldchillin23222)-Empty Room
Hey great to hear a band. I don't ussually like songs with that heavy reverb/delay vocal sound, but it works really well in the song. I like the change between the verse and chorus, nice transition. I would try to change up your singing during the chorus, mabey sing higher and louder...that will give you more dynamics. Nice little melody when you say "now the sufficating can be--g--in", that part is really cool, and makes the song memorable.
Mitch (You_Enjoy_Myself)- ( name coming soon)
Wow, I really didn't think an instrumental could compete with lyrical styled songs, but this is damn good. My foot was tapping throughout, and the percussion probably added to that. I like the second guitar playing the harmonics, doesn't sounds like a guitar then...kinda like a harp or something. The main melody is great, but you also have the neat little breack down that keeps me from getting tired. Wonderful work-

CBAlvarez - I really like your voice actually, it's got a kinda nice rasp to it, almost similar to Layne Staley. The song and progression were somewhat simple, but effective. Some of the best songs are the simplest, so don't take that as a critique, but merely as an observation. Well done.
Tom Juineaux - I actually got a sneak preview on this song, and it's so damn awesome. I almost had to threaten disqualification because Bruce Cockburn has a song of the same name, and I thought you might have ripped him off, but your songs are actually quite different. I love the slow, quiet feeling this song has. Great job again(like everything else you do)
Adam Waking Hours - Very catchy progression, a little jazzy and it hooks you in right away. I like your voice, and I think a backup female vocalist would sound very nice on this song. Actually, do I hear some background vocals? I can't tell. But if you don't already have some in their, it's something to consider. The mix is very well done though, and the percussion sounds great. Snazzy little outro there too.
Appfro Von Blanketdoggen - Badass song. I really liked this one, you write some really cool lyrics, which makes me insanely jealous. The vocals are good, but they sound like they could've been mixed a little better, or maybe put a little reverb on them. They just don't seem to mesh with the rest of the recording. And it's too bad you're not playing with that band anymore, because this would be fun to jam out full band, it would sound awesome with some drums backing it.
Cold Chillin - I like the delay style effect on your voice. I really don't have much to critique on this one.
Micah Tomorrow's Yesterdays - Very professional sounding recording. The double tracking of the vocals sounded solid, and they never really were out of sync. The lyrics didn't really grab me in anyway, but they were good nonetheless.
That's all the time I have to critique right now. I'll come back later and edit in the rest of them.
