I'll Back You Up

Unread post by MitchMan3687 » Tue Sep 09, 2003 3:19 am

I just had a friend pass away in a car accident, and I was just wondering if to anyone else the lyircs to this song sound like a kind of dedication to someone. I know it's a love song, but if you have a tragedy like this, the words really seem to symbolize some kind of loss. I guess I'm just reaching out, but I was just wondering if anyone felt the same way?
"One sweet world
Around a star is spinning
One sweet world
And in her breath I'm swimming
And here we will rest in peace." - OSW

yea, i definetly think so. i had the problem of coming up w/ a good memorial song when my grandmother passed away a year ago. but after not being able to find one, i wrote one. but if you don't want to write, id say that ill back you up is a good song. ive also heard dave dedicate loving wings to someone he knew that passed away, but after reading the lyrics, id say ill back you up is probably better than that one.

...sorry for your loss

That is truly a great loss, and deepest apologies to you. My brother, who is a fellow guitarist, lost his best friend in a car accident. He could not find any songs to dedicate to his passed friend, so he kinda gave it up for a while. I would say "I'll Back You Up" is a great memorial to a close friend or loved one. If you can, try writing songs. It's the only way you can express exactly how you feel. Once again the most sincere condolences to you.

peace
I love you oh so well, like a kid loves candy and fresh snow.

definitely sorry to hear for your loss. i'm sure most of the board will keep you in our thoughts, whether that's prayer or anything.

take care of yourself and keep on moving.

i'll back you up can be taken as it is...that's the beauty of music. you take it how it is. two step also comes to mind, if only for the chorus.

"celebrate we will, cuz life is short but sweet for certain."

other songs that come to mind? david gray's the other side, written for his father. jeff buckley's lover you should've come over...sort of a love song, but it has that sense of loss and yearning in it. also satisfied mind...which they played at his funeral.

anyway, that's all i can think of right now.

here if there's anything i can do.

also if you can play it, i think one of the best memorial songs ever is "tears in heaven" by clapton. its a great memorial written for his son as im sure everyone already knows.

anyone else agree that this song would be better if it were titled "I'll Bust A Nut"?

Wow app. I was just about to type tears in heaven. That is a horribly sad song... I'm very sorry about your friend. What a terrible thing to happen to anyone.

But if tears is already taken... Maybe grace is gone? That one always touches me. As isaac said, we're here...

jason..that is quite funny, but the guy lost one of his friends in a car accidentant.. if dave sung a song about busting a nut, i'd never stop listening to it, it'd be too funny..

Do what Dave did

#36

Too show you remember the good times as well as the bad. Death is a tragic thing, even though it is common, it still is very tragic. If he is still looking back at you, play IBYU, but remind him that you know the good old days of fund, joy, and wonder, #36. Peace and love to you, I am always open to talking, e-mail, IM, anything, I will always lend an ear.

Man, really sorry to hear of your loss. When I was 17 (I'm 20 now) I lost my best friend in a car accident too. It's a horrible thing to go through. You'll be in all our thoughts and prayers I'm sure.

The wonderful thing about music is that it is always intensely personal to the listener. I don't know what Dave had in mind for I'll Back You Up, but if means remembrance of your loss for you, then that is just fine. I can see how you identify the lyrics.

We chose Nothing Else Matters, by Metallica for my friend to play at his funeral. It's a beautiful song.

His name was James.

I'd go for Tears in Heaven acoustically, or I'll Back You Up. But more the Clapton. But if you want something a little more upbeat, YNK w/ the whole "Every day should be a good day to die" bit is beautiful.

Pick what you feel is right.
