Changing Fender Pickguard

Unread post by Beauford33 » Sat Aug 06, 2005 9:33 pm

Does anyone know how to change the pickguard on a fender strat? This is my first time even really dealing with the pickguard so Im a little hesitant about what Im doing. So far I have unscrewed everything, but the handle on the toggle wont allow the pickguard to come off. Does it just pull off or is it something different? Is there anything I should be aware of while doing this? Thanks for any help that is given.

Well, sorry for the wasted space.

the pickguard should just be straightforward to replace. Anything in the way (knobs, toggle handle) should be able to be pulled off. Once these and the screws are out, the pickguard should just come right off. Put the new pickguard in, screw it in, place back the knobs and toggle handle.

your second post, im a tad confused about. I'm not sure if you're having problems with the new pickguard or if you're just surprised with the pickguard coming off.

The last post was refferring(sp) to the handle on the pickups toggle. It wouldnt come off. But after a half hour of attack at it with whatever I could...it just came off when I pulled with my hand.

I'm not too familiar with the toggle, but it could have been glued on there are just very well stuck. You may have just torn the glue or opened the hole of it a little bit. If you have issues with it, like it still keeps coming off, you can try to find a replacement... haha, or just put a little bit of glue in the hole of the knob. If you take it off after you glue it, you might have to attack at it again.

I think there might be springs under the screw for the pickups...you know where they screw to raise or lower them a bit.

oh, gotcha. That is why my bridge pickup wasnt high enough to screw back in. Well, I fixed that by putting some toilet paper under it to give some lift. I was pretty proud.
