I just finished listening to UTTAD all the way through for the first time in probably 5 years (I lost the CD and hadn't replaced it) ... What an album!

Dear Dave Matthews Band,

Ok, I understand that we all need to mix things up from time to time. We were willing to go along with "Everyday" because it was different and you guys were trying something new.

Then "Stand Up" came out and we were again excited after hearing "Louisiana Bayou" and "Dreamgirl" ... But the album's half-life of replayability is rapidly diminishing; something that has never happened to "Under the Table and Dreaming" or "Crash."

So, we've all had our fun. We've done our "experimentation" with new music and our "solo" projects. It's time to get back to the essence of what has made Dave Matthews Band the phenomenal success that it has been.

Please, no more hip-hop. No more 3-minute songs. Fuck MTV. Fuck the radio. Go into the studio, gather round a bunch of microphones and put out the music you want to play. Give us more "Crazy/Easy" and "Joyride" and less "Stand Up" and "I Did It" if you can.

We'll be here waiting for you when you're done. We'll all gladly buy the new album and sell out your summer tour. We, the faithful, are not without some concern and trepidation. As the band whose music defined the teenage and college years of many of us, we feel that you may be sliding towards the precipice of musical irrelevance ... Something none of us want to see happen.

Sincerely,

Your Fans

well said.

the songs from last summer: crazy easy, joyride, sugar will, etc. remind me of the "lillywhite sessions".

They played them live, then put out a completly different album(Everyday).
THEN they put out Busted Stuff which turned out to be, IMO, possibly the best collection of songs on one album.

So hopefully they'll grab those 2004 summer songs and throw them together and put out an album.

hey, just get back to recording the stuff that signifies DMB.

regardless, I'll always be a fan so...

So, let me see if I have this correct then:

Writing about South African politics = teh Good

Writing about American politics = teh Bad

*frowns loudly*
Your point is well made. I suppose it just bugs me when artists get too preachy. Just the song names everybody wake up and stand up bug me. And I still think it's lame to blame Batson, he may have contributed the hip-hopish stuff but the band still went with it.

Cry feedom may fall into that category. And yes Dave is the lyric guy.

But yea overall I would say that most of Dave's pre-stand up lyrics were about the usual love/death/life stuff.

I think Warehouse was inspired by the warehouse they used to play in. Word is that it's painted pink now.

yeah i knew they wrote it about a warehouse they used to play in, but your comment before said he wrote about the "...usual love/death/life stuff"

i was just wondering what category you would place a song like that into, and maybe it doesnt fall into any of the three

either way, it was just a question :)
