Forget that, it ain't me, it's the disc it just ain't good.
yeah, its definatly not you, this album sucks for the most part. usually low end dave songs are still good and a hell of a lot better than most crappy music today, but i'd say more than half of stand up just plain sucks.

whats left in this round minus dreamgirl are the only decent songs on the album. maybe one of the piano ones.

I think the band got extremely high and liked everything they made on first listen...got drunk passed out, and meanwhile mark batson took the tracks and hip-hopped them up and released the CD...now the band is like "oh shit, we made this?"

Even if you're half joking I think you're right.

Batson recorded everything, even the warmups or the doodling that was going on in between songs and such, and just like a hip hop producer he used those odd riffs and doolings almost like he was sampling and the result is something quite weak and foreign to most long time DMB fans.

yeah, and i think the fact that the live versions of these new songs (most of them anyway) are miles better than the originals prove how great a band these guys are. they take some shit that batson loops in a studio and make it into a decent song, at least mildy enjoyable for most people. boy mark batson was a bad decision, though

Do you think that the final cd version of a song is different than they had written it, to the point where they have to almost re-learn it when they play it on tour?

Oh yeah, you're dead on. DMB is a live band, the best. I said it before, but you take an honest, objective look at any of the so-called Top 40 bands that tour (usually ONLY to support a new album) and they pale in comparison in ability, quality and draw at live shows.

DMB's dynamic is best appreciated in a live setting.

This isn't a dig at you at all, but why do people praise the new cd continually then?

My point of view is this is a discussion board for fans of DMB. Both points of view can yield some decent discussions and honestly it makes me feel better when other DMB fans feel the same way I do because I don't feel like I'm being "overly negative" but actually realistic.

I dont recall anyone being "HOLY SHIT THIS THE BEST SHIT EVER! OMG!!!111LOLZ!!!" or anything to that effect. I can speak for myself and say that I agree to a certain point with those who do not like the album, and say this isnt there best work. However, there is a point where I think you just need to accept it for what it is worth and move on. Continually complaining about something you cannot change for months on end gets old after a while. Believe me, everyone knows the differing veiws on this CD. You dont need to make it apparent that this album is a "peice of shit and Mark Batson should DIAF" everytime the oppertunity presents itself. (lots of grammar errors, my bad)
