im starting to appreciate kanters dedication to having 100% accurate tabs a lot more now.StarSlight wrote:http://www3.sympatico.ca/g403z/
The tab there is better, as are the tabs for the rest of his songs.
Mayer's "Why Georgia?" (help)
wow, that tab is a lot better, and i like how they numbered the parts and just entered the # at the point in the lyrics they are played.StarSlight wrote:http://www3.sympatico.ca/g403z/

now if only they had dmb tabs......

...i shall make this...my first post..lol
This is a great song..!
I don't have that second part down as the tab says it..but the way I learned it was
I hope this shows up correctly....its played in the pretty much the same rhythm. It a little easier...but again, not the way the tab is written out and not the purist form of it.
As for the slapping...I pretty much mastered the slapping in this song in 1 afternoon. I just sat with my guitar...and started playing, while tapping my foot to really get a feel for it. Then I started playing and tried as HARD as possible..to slap on the 2 and 4 no matter what. Even if I screwed up my playing, I'd just play the riff over and over again. After maybe like 1 hr...I had it down where I could slap in time as well as play the riff.
Hope this helps.

He's basically just slapping all the strings with his thumb to mute everything and to get that percussive sound on the 2nd and 4th beat of every measure.
From Any Given Thursday, on the second part, he only slaps the strings on the 4th beat. So something like this:

So here's the deal with this part:
If you want to play it like John you have to finger it like so:
Thumb is on the a string 3rd fret
Index is barring the d and g at 2nd fret
Middle is on the b string at 3rd fret
Ring is on g string at 4th fret
Pinky is taking care of the hammer ons at the 5th fret
Now, for the majority of people this shape is a bitch to play cleanly every time. Just getting your thumb up and over the low E and fretting the a while trying to maintain your reach with the pinky is extremely tough.
For those who want an alternative I recommend this. Use the above tab but omit the b string.

Index is barring d and g at the 2nd fret
Ring is on g string at 4th fret
Pinky is taking care of the hammer ons at the 5th fret
