Cry Freedom Cover

Unread post by cmr0385 » Sun Aug 31, 2003 3:24 pm

Ok, since I have found its fun to post my songs, regardless of how much they suck ass, I have. This will not even be fun to listen to ;) (maybe someone can tell me different :), probably not though). Uhh, its the guitar of Cry Freedom done really shoddy. I recorded it late last nite before bed, why, I dont know. Some of the guitar is somewhat smooth, verses are pretty bad, as a few times I just completely screwed up with strumming. You may be asking how with this song, its just a good sign how much ass I suck. I think the chorus might be decent. Its all dry, didnt mix anything, just removed one messup. I refuse to sing this song (or at least until I get home from work :)) Uhh, so, post, tell me how terrible it is, give me some advice, I might get better. Some things I already know, there is an instant message sound and the sound of my comp. fan coming on (Powerbook using its mic, close to the fan ... :() Anyways, ok, enough babbling.

I was just going to say (the fan thing came up) and then I read about it

you have the chordings right...you just need to work on the right hand strumming...keep practicing along with stuff like L@LC an get the right chops and patterns ;)

Thanks a lot! You are one of the people whose opinions I really respect and would definitly agree with you about the strumming. Id like to get a new mic, but oh well, Ill have to make due with what I have right now. I a lot of the times have an easier time with picking than strumming. Ill post things like Jimi Thing, Recently, The Stone, and stuff like that next. I dont know why, it's just something I really need to work on. I really like recording and posting though, its fun :) And re: the post you just made with For Her, that sounded really cool :) Well, I really want to record something when I get home from work. Ill take suggestions, although it might be a disappointment when you hear me cover it :) But Ill try. Thanks so much again firedancer, and everyone else :)

edit: I said the mic thing regarding the fan, not the strumming problem ;) Im sure you already knew that though :)

Hey Corey. I listened to it and liked it a lot. You play the verse chords very well. I normally play them by accentuating the bass note and then the strum (kinda like Crash) but I think I like you're approach better. It sounds more like Dave.

Fire's right - just need to work on the transitions a bit more. Also it should be an Emaj before the chorus. Sounds like you're playing an A. I did this cover a few weeks ago. Perhaps it'll help:

Wow!!! Thanks so much! Those are really kind words. Its an Emaj before the chorus? I never knew, so I just kinda made it up and thought an A sounded right (probably would have been easier just to check the tab ;)) Ill check out your version as soon as I get to my Powerbook (comp Im on now doesnt have speaker  ) But wow, oh, thats the coolest thing anyones ever told me. I have some covers of Jimi Thing, Billies, Gravedigger, Recently, and all that, so Ill post them soon. I want to rework them though. So far, everything has been one take :) Well, thanks so much!!!

Ok, well, I listened to it, and to be quite blunt, I was very impressed :) Im not courageous enough to tackle the singing yet, but you did a really good job. And the smooth and rich chords all sounded very good. Id like to make things sound a little smoother like you. Thanks for putting the link :)
