12 string
i know that dmb is fine how they are, but post any songs here (if you have any in mind) that could work and maybe sound pretty sweet with a 12 string, also id like to say im a big ass fan of the 12 string, the way it sounds, and IMO id like to play a 12 string more than a 6 when i picked one up near town square in NYC where they have a whole section of those music stores, i dont have one but hell i soon as i got some more $$$ someday, but also say here if you really like the 12 string too or if you have one,
but anyways, i thought a lot of there stuff would sound cool with a 12 string, but for ex. it think wwys could sound pretty fuckin sweet, and during boyds outro solo during billies, a 12 string could sound pretty sweet with the really full strummy sound that it gives.

there's definatley been a thread on this before. do a search next time, or check back in ten minutes when someone has posted the link to the thread.
EDIT: i didn't mean for that to come off as rude or anything. i was simply saying that there have been a couple threads on this topic(one was on songs that sound real good on a 12 string, i believe another was on what kind of 12 string to buy). but you are absolutely right, twelve strings rock. if you want to hear some real cool 12 string songs(or 12 string baritone or 18 string) listen to keller williams and the crazy shit he can do.

hosting the oscars is like winning the heisman trophy. no matter how you do in the ballgame, or whatever, they can't take it away from you. and even if you kill your wife and an ex-waiter, they still have a hard time taking it away from you

I personally think a lot of DMB songs would sound horrible on a 12 string. I say that because I have tried them out and it just doesn't work. Since the lower 4 strings are paired octaves, anything done rhythm wise sounds really good. But if you have a lick that goes back and forth exclusively, I think it sends to sound really weird, not in my taste at least.

it's all about personal preference. like, i think that there are some dave songs(don't drink the water, crush and bartender) that sound awesome on a 12 string, but i don't think that the stone sounds any better; but there were a couple people here who said the stone sounded awesome. it's all about preference though.

Being an owner of a 12-string, I'll list what songs I think sound on the 12. If there's a song not on this list, it's because I think it sounds like shit imo (like 'Billies for example). Of course, this is just my opinion so take it for whatever it's worth.
Ants
Minarets
Typical Situation
Dancing Nancies
Two Step
Crash Into Me (this sounds really sweet)
#41
Lie In Our Graves
Don't Drink The Water
Crush
Dreaming Tree
Spoon
Grey Street
Loving Wings
Diggin' A Ditch
JTR
Big Eyed Fish
Bartender
Kit Kat Jam
Sweet Up And Down
Granny
Fool To Think
Hello Again
Of course a few of those songs are usually played with a 12-string by Dave, so we already know they sound good. Also, most of these songs are fairly strummy-strum and naturally sound good that way. A lot of the songs with licks or riffs that serve as rythm just sound plain weird. Someone already pointed out that Stone sounds odd and it does, so I guess I'm just saying you will find the more "chord-oriented" songs sounding the best.
