Focusing In On Different Members During a Song

Unread post by Nitro1515 » Mon Jul 18, 2005 5:02 pm

One of my favorite things about this band is that their is no weak link. I love listening to their earlier CD's (R2T-LWS) and being able to jump around and focus in on all the different members throughout the course of a song. Its great to listen to how talented Carter is for a few seconds then try to focus in on some of the cool fills Stefan is throwing in on top of Dave's guitar part then listen to what Boyd and Roi are doing. If I try and do this with other bands I find that it isn't as exciting. I think it just goes to show what an impressive collection of musicians they really are. I also wanted to know if anybody else does that when they listen to them?

Yep, Dream Theater and Umphrey's are just too ridiculous to be able to pay attention to everything. I'll be listing to a UM song for about the 20th time and I still notice something new about it. Umphrey's are owning me right now.

i like listening to the live concerts and listening to how boyd, carter, butch and leroi just flow in and out of each other. and when one of them will start to end there part you can pick it up, and all the while catching dave's guitar riffs.

Yeah I definatly zone out and listen to different members. I think it helps me keep the songs fresh, because its like I can have a different experience with a song every time I listen to it.

warehouse is a kick-ass example of this. especially i think RR version. after the run down "awayy......(rundown) shut up i'm thinking"

you can hear everyone coming in individually, and it kicks major ass.

Werd. Everyone is playing a very different part in each song, but the final product is soooo good and has so much depth. Much more depth than (dare I say it) the Dave Mattews Band. But all the cool instrumentation in DMB is just too cool and by far the most original IMO.

You should listen to Umphrey's McGee Sam. Then you realize you don't need to say "(dare I say it)" because you understand that DMB isn't the best band out there.
