CONTEST: Pick a Simon song and record it

Unread post by DrFartbrain » Fri Jul 15, 2005 1:08 pm

I've decided to hold a little informal contest now that I'm back around here. This is the deal:
Pick a song by my selected artist. Record the song using whatever means necessary. Post it in here. Limit one entry per person.
This time, the artist will be...

Drumroll...

Paul Simon

It can be anything he's ever written or performed, so that includes anything done with Garfunkel or solo (and even The Capeman, for those of you who are hardcore enough).

Record the song and post it here (make sure I can tell what song it is).

I'll be judging these based on a few factors:

1.) Playing ability: Is your playing concise? Is the fingerpicking good?
2.) Vocals: Is your diction good? Do you bring emotion to the lyrics when called for?
3.) Personalization: Do you bring something of your own to the song, or does it stick strictly to any album or live versions?

Personalization is most important for me, as I've always championed bringing something of your own to songs you play.

I'm not looking for studio-quality recordings, but just something where everything can be heard. Remember, it's not so much about the sound quality as it is about the feeling of your recording.

Good luck, and I'll post the prizes soon!
Adam

Aww come on.... I always loved his solo music. Graceland is possibly one of the best albums ever IMO. Hard voice to emulate though. Too high for me.

It all piles up so tall, into one big nothing...one big nothing at all

Sure, as you're bringing something of your own to it.

I think I might re-record either The Boxer or American Tune. Are you going to be the sole judge?
