Look out, the Ranting Thespian has arrived

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Look out, the Ranting Thespian has arrived

Unread post by Ranting Thespian » Mon Sep 01, 2003 5:45 am

Hi. I am nick, the Ranting Thespian . . . (it's my stage name and artist name, like Sting. It was going to be a name of a band were we were all actors, thespian = actor, but the band fell through, and I kept the name).

Guitar is my life, and music is my life. I have been listening to music since I was a little pike.

I grew up with Neil Young, Bruce Springstien, Jimmy Buffet, Steve Earl, Diar Straits (the I want my mtv song is theirs), Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Turtles, Simon and Garfunkel, and of course the Beatles (John is my idol).

Then, my Mom was the first one to introduce me to DMB when UTTAD came out. It took 2 years until my bro made me by Crash to get into DMB. Now it's 2003, and I am a big fan (no obsessed, but still big).

This board seems so much nicer than most dmb boards out there (I've been through quite a few, and never found one that I wanted to saty with, and I think I will with this one)

Now for guitar. Acoustic guitar is my favorite type of music, just solo vocals and acoustic guitar, I love it. But, I do love electric too. Today, I listen to the abstract, and the very soft stuff, but I also like to put in some metal from time to time.

For guitars, I have these

Fender DG20-CE - my first acoustic, and it has never let me down)
DeArmond X-135 http://www.guitarshowcase.com/GS/DeArmond_Guitar.htm (lower right) it has the best action, and is my favorite to play here.
Conn Classical - it's my mom's from the 60s. It cost her 1000 back then, and it's in awesome shape, only scractches from where she used a pick, before she knew better about classical guitars.
Gibson Les Paul Studio - With this one, I will never need a solid body guitar ever again. It's a Gibson Les Paul, how can you beat that? lol. I decided the studio rather than the Standard, because it is very similar, and is more stripped down with the look and such (which I like), but the feel and the sound is just the same, and I never regreted it.

I am also looking to buy a Guild D-50CE, for a better performance acousitc.

Well, to cut this short, I can play almost every dmb song there is, almost, and I have written over 50 myself.

One last thing, my favorite song to play is either Real Love - John Lennon, Grace Is Gone, or Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd. Those are just the top, though, I still love others.

That's it, hope to have a great and peaceful time here with you all :)

Best introductory thread ever. Welcome. :) Post up some of your originals in the critiquing forum...I'd love to hear em.

PS...I recognize this name from other boards...same guy, I take it?

Well, I am the one and only, well known, and with some people from typicalsituations.com and dmbrr.com, well dislked and well hated, Ranting Thespian. You might also know me as the guy from nancies.org doing his own DMB tribute CD. Here's the link to it if you are curious . . . http://www.nancies.org/boards/showthrea ... did=141971

Even though I am hated by some people, I am not a bad guy. I am a very peaceful loving person, just I conflict with some people, sometimes for unkown reasons . . . and somtimes they are just dumb asses ;) lol.

So, don't fear me, my bible are the lyrics to Imagine - John Lennon. Get to know me, and you will see I am not one that is to be hated, or hates others.

Glad you could join us here, Nick. Very cool to hear that you have originals, and if you're wanting to improve on the style of Dave Matthews, that's cool too.

Welcome to the show, hope you like it here. I agree with you that these boards are a little nicer and easier going than others. I also look forward to hearing some of your stuff.

haha, i already welcomed you in another thread, but this works too! ;) anyway, definitely post up some stuff in the Recording section, i'm sure we'd all love to hear.

as for being one of the nicest communities around, i'd say so. ;) i love this place, and i'm sure you will too. it's pretty reciprocal though...we normally don't bite each other's heads off but there are exceptions. *chuckles*

anyway, welcome! hopefully we don't hate you too soon. ;)

and then some. ;) but we love gcom. yes. everyone needs their own Elliot.

we should make a talking elliot bobble head, that wears a t-shirt that says "nElliot talk overruled" and whenever he bobbles his head too much, it'll say "DMB SUCKS!"

haha that would rule. I would buy one. That ranks up there with the Jesus action figure I saw in a store in Montreal. Which also ranks up there with the guy in a Batman suit I saw dancing to weird hip hop on a street corner...only in a big city...black city...risin up around me....steal me soul away...:-D

Hey, Ranting Thespian! Welcome. :D

I remember you doing the Tribute in Nancies! Did you finish it up? I suggested some songs for you.

anyways, welcome. This is the nicest board you will find. Nancies can get pretty nasty sometimes.
