Basically: It can only help you, but if you don't do it, it's not going to hurt you any.

Ahhhhhahahha....this drummer I play with that happens to be African American(who thinks he's carter) screams that when we make the SMTS > ASTB transition. Pretty funny

there are only 3 things you need to eventualy become great.

1-Emotion
2-Passion
3-Dedication

You may not make it to Shea Stadium, or the Gorge. But you will know you are great to yourself, and for music, that's all that matters.

number 1: stop looking at tab...as others have said, develop your ear, if you can't hear the changes yourself, how do you expect to write them, solo over them, etc. etc. etc.

I look at tab a lot (if you don't look at tab, I would wonder why are at dmbtabs.com lol :-P ). I also write a lot (just finished #51 early this morning, around 2 am), and I tab my own songs incase I forget them. Some people hate tab, think it's simple, but also to do tab, you have to have somewhat of an ear for music, so you know the rythm and how to change from chord or string to another chord or string, and the harshness. Tabs are also great co compare with others so eventualy you can play the song exactly how it is supposed to be played.

You can look at tabs or not, but I don't see how it would hurt to keep looking, since it's just once little peice for playing a song. happy strumming and picking.

i prefer actual musical notation, with it you can figure out the rhythm, which you cant do with tab...

I make and dispute tabs, thank you very much, tab is great for people who just want to play for fun, but if you're really serious about it and want to be "great," you need an ear, not tab...
