Seek Up Cover

Unread post by cmr0385 » Fri Aug 29, 2003 11:11 pm

Ok, first cover ever and time recording. Straight out of the little hole in my powerbook that is the mic. Just the chorus, kinda just decided to do it all of a sudden. One take, bad vocals, probably bad guitar, i played around with teh little intro at the end, i know its way too fast, i got nervous, and some of the forget about teh reasons and treasons part just sucks. Other than this being complete shit, let me know what you think. Ive been playing a little over a year, and usually play around with blues, jazz, and well, DMB :) If you guys would like to hear something else, Im sure Ill get less frightened of the red record button being on, and Id like to think Im a little better at least than what I sound, and I have a good portion of the songs somewhat knows. Anyways, Im done talking, ready for the onslaught. Kick my ass if you want :) Thanks!

Are you sure it doesnt work. I set all the correct permissions, and even had someone else test it. Working from both of our sides. Hmm, I dunno, anyone else care to let us know if it works :)

Well, I was going to say Im not the most talented singer, but I guess Ill change that phrase to "I have no talent in singing". Yes, I know it sounds like Im talking, funny thing, thats me singing. I have a lot, a lot, a lot of problems with it. In fact, its all problems. Sorry about that. And another sad thing, I thought this was one of my best sounded times Ive sung (although I guess its the first time Ive heard myself recorded) but still. Oh well... Any tips on ways to sing? As you can tell, I need them.

Thanks
Corey

Sorry man, didn't mean to come across as an ass. After I read it I realise i did..
We all gotta start somehow, recording yourself alot helps, so keep doing that.
Do a few searches and you'll find alot of useful info on singing..
best of luck

welcome :)
mind if I ask how long you have been playing guitar faithfully...I have seen so many people that just need to break past certain barriers, then they go off...everyone sucks until they can beat certain markers...who cares if it doesn't sound 100% YEST, I mean you didn't post to impress right? Just keep working on it and sing along with CDs often...once you break past that wall, things will brighten up quickly :) try woking on getting a more of a flow with the strumming and breathing patterns to keep constant motion (even if you arent picking/chopping - just keep the pace going)...I encourage you to keep it up and work hard on the vocal anf rythmatic flow :D

Thanks for all the constructive criticism. Wow, I just noticed I had a lot of spelling and gramatical errors in my first posts. Oh well. :) Ive been playing a bit over a year, so, Im still pretty new. I find the thing I have the most trouble with is strumming patterns. I seem like I always use the same one. So, Ive been trying to kinda change things, but Ive never had lessons or anything, so, Im kinda in the dark right now. Lessons might be a good idea for the future though. I have actually never played Seek Up with the song, I just kinda really sat down and played it yesterday before I recorded it. It was a song I just usually overlooked because I was always thinking it as a song not so guitar oriented. Anyways, excuses aside, I know I have terrible singing and guitar playing, and Im not here to impress, you are correct. But, who will it hurt to hear myself every once in a while, and let you guys hear me too. Another problem I have is I never really sit down and learn just one song. Ill just play around with them all. Oh well, thanks so much for your help and tips and what not. I listen to a lot of the stuff you guys put up, and am usually very impressed :)

Ill start recording and posting more often, it wont hurt anything :)
