Has this ever happened to anyone?

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

...gotten ass-raped by a horse while being beaten over the head with a club...

BLA DEE!!!

nah, fereel though

there was this chick who had a guitar who asked me to play...I said "sure"
the guitar didnt have any dots on the neck to show you what the 5th/7th/etc. fret were(worn off I guess)...so I started to play, and I pretty much fuckin blew, i.e. I was hitting wrong notes and the action was so high it was almost painful, I couldnt even hold down the strings....playing a good guitar makes a big difference I realized the other day...or playing one that you are used to. she probably thought I was decent at best.

they don't just "wear off", but some guitars have none...if that is the case, the dots are inlaid on the side of the neck ;)

should get her phone number and told her to come over to your place where you could give her a free show :P

dude, that is so fuckin' weird that you mention that. i just got home this morning from camping and my women just bought me this kinda cheap guitar that i could bring camping and not worry about breaking it, well it doesn't have any dots until the 9th fret. so were camping with all my friends and my wifes and i start to play and totally fucked up the OSW intro along with the actual song and i think i fucked up SMTS when you slide up to the dm chord(11th fret), completely embarrassing. just happened last night! the dots on my fender start at five and my other guitar starts at the first fret, wish they'd just keep it that way.

I don't care about inlays because I don't usually see the "face" of the neck. I look at the dots on the side looking down at it...My guitar doesn't have them on the frets either, just on the side of the neck...

Well, hmmm...I have never played a "dotless" guitar (is that a word?) I don't always look at the guitar or even have my eyes open when I play, so I guess that it might throw me off initially. Most of the time I just go by sound. I would have a horrid time playing satellite if I couldn't hear the notes. So I guess all that I need is sound and muscle memory.

That's all folks

Peace

It's not a word. I think there's a term, but I'd have to look it up.

Sound and muscle memory for me, thank you very much.

i dont really need inlays but one thing really screws me up. my friends ovation has wood sharktooth inlays and theres one on the first fret... that confuses me.. lol

A skilled guitar player should not need "dots" to play well.

I usually have problems with stupid dotless guitars. On my usual guitar, I don't really need to look my hand when I'm trying to play; through use I've become accustomed to where my frets are. On some unfamiliar guitar, if it doesn't have the dots and some sort of fingerboard inlay I tend to miss rather often. If I used a stupid dotless guitar often enough, I probably wouldn't mind though.

i don't think so... mine doesn't have dots and i only like it better because i like the way it looks much more. i've NEVER seen a guitar without dots on at least the edge of the neck.
