alt. picking?? ...diggin a ditch, recently

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

alt. picking?? ...diggin a ditch, recently

Unread post by mattm » Fri Aug 29, 2003 7:04 pm

does anyone know (for sure) how dave plays songs like diggin a ditch and recently? does he alternate pick these notes or simply downpick them.

i'm sure he's played them both ways at various points, but which method does he typically use?

anyone have a list of songs in which he definitely alt. picks?

(note: by 'alternate picking' i mean downpicking a note, then uppicking the next note, back and forth... like in satellite)

yeah. i alt pick satellite ... well down, down, up on the 4,6,8 notes, then alt picks for the rest. i learned to play satellite using all downstrokes, but then i learned to alt pick it, and i think it sounds much smoother, like dave plays it.

but what i'm wondering is how Dave does plays Diggin and Recently, the note-picking parts.

yeah. i've heard him fingerpick it, but i've also heard him play with a pick. he can play any/all of his songs with a pick. and when he does, does he alt. pick?

i've got a laptop with dialup - not helpful for downloading vids. but i know lots of people here have seen and studied most of the dm vids out there. someone must know

yeah, digging a ditch really is just improv, and play mostly what you want fiddling with the two chords.

the most important thing is to keep it constant. i think dave downpicks recently and satellite.

alternate on the OSW intro, for whatever reason...i saw him do it though.
