Yeah, it's because there was no page 5, but for some reason the main page thought there was. Don't ask me... bug in the code somewhere, I'm not going to worry about it.

it happens from time to time. usually you just have to go back to the page right before it and everything is fine

I just pored through every bit of code that is associated with this problem for about twenty minutes and found exactly where the bug should be - but it's not there. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the code. I'm afraid that I'm just going to have to chalk this up to a side effect of a few issues completely unrelated to the code and that should be fixed once we make the jump to 3.0. While we're doing that jump we'll be doing a BUNCH of stuff that will increase the speed and reliability of the site, and this little issue should be fixed.

Edit: Oh, and I manually fixed the issue with the pog thread.

I dont expect an answer to my first question, but any idea on a more exact date for 3.0, like which month, early, mid, late, etc...

Also, how much down time is the site looking at when we make the jump?

Thanks.

No exact date, no. There have been several factors that have lead to it being "delayed" (although we never gave an expected release date, we certainly hoped to have it done before now) - I sort of waited for the next version of phpBB to be released, as it's going to be changing a lot of the user classes that the new site relies on. It was supposed to be out in December of '04, but due to similar problems, hasn't been released yet. Then I got sick and had to spend any free time I had doing schoolwork to try to stay afloat. Then we decided to change up the design because the one we had wasn't extensible enough for what we wanted to do. Now we've got a pretty nifty design completed, and I'm back to coding in all of my free time. I'm hoping to have beta-testing (Test-Driving) signups sometime this summer (hopefully July sometime). Then we'll start approving people's applications in small groups based on what they're able to test (and perhaps on how long they've been members ;)). Throughout the beta testing period I imagine we'll be adding more and more features because we've got a pretty nifty list. We'll keep adding features even after general release as we finish them.

As for the downtime, since we now have control over our DNS (unlike last time we switched), in the weeks leading up to the changeover, we'll be able to keep downtime to an absolute minimum. The boards will be down a bit longer than the entire site, but they shouldn't be down nearly as long as last time. This is because we have to freeze any changes to the forum database so that we can transfer it to the new server without there being a mismatch where people post on the old server after we've transferred the data to the new server. At any rate, the downtime should *technically* be no more than 15 minutes, but in reality (due to a lot of ISP's breaking the rules of DNS caching) will definitely not be more than a day.

Sounds good man, Jared gave me a sneak peek of things a while back and I liked what I saw. Id deffinatley be interested in testing and whatnot. Thanks again for keeping this place running and all.

Yeah same here. This is totally irrelevant, but I think we should erase everyones post count in the switch, but keep the joined date the same.
