i drank the water wrote:Yeah, I came across a little snide, what I mean is, if Dave's said this then what's the point. I really could care less about his religious beliefs and these types of threads annoy me.
If you could care less and these threads annoy, then maybe just dont post or read them, its not hard. Not trying to be rude, but its not like whats daves favorite meal or something, its just a philosophical inquiry.
If someone can post something so trivial then I may post at will.
And if Dave favors steak over chicken, that's NOT a philospophical matter at all.
I do get what you're saying, just at time it irks me to the degree of discussion concerning Dave and the political/religious basis of his songs. Dave is just a guy who got lucky and writes songs for a living. It's the same argument with someone as prolific as Dylan. He conscientiously wrote songs that would intrigue people and be considered to be "deep" and/or "cool". Read Joan Baez's autobiography if you disagree, it's in there.
Bottom line, I dig DMB's music, but must I over analayze something that only needs to be appreciated.
Just the way I feel, that's all. I'm not trying to attack you or anything lame like that.

Good point there tietze, i had a feeling that after i saw this it'd be some religious/political argument based discussion as to what side Dave's on.
His music is there for enjoyment and not to be torn apart by analysts
But for those of you who insist go ahead then. free country.
Goin back to what filmdude said, he is agnostic, i didnt hear him say out plainly, but i read it in an article a few years back. He kindof beat around the bush in saying it but nonetheless he made that point out pretty clearly.
As for his religious references in songs, its mostly just inspiration. You can get inspirtaion from something, or someone and not have to be associated with that certain group or belief.
Just sayin a few things to take into consideration, thats all.

No clue, but it religion and death seem to be very common in the lyrics. I wouldn't be surprised if he believed in God, but most of you seem to think he's agnostic. Which is good cause Im agnostic too.
