Yeah i don't know this whole LP vs. Strat thing is very reminiscent of the Martin vs. Taylor thing. I think some of the same principals apply though. From my experience LP's tend to be like a Taylor is to me, thin, very good even high and mid tones but a little lacking on the lows. And the Starts are kinda like Martins, rich boomy low end with kind of a thick high end. I'm also a happy Mexi-strat player. I did swap the pickups in mine for some nice SRV Texas wildcats. Now my stuff is very boomy and low, which is my preference. I didn't dig the LPs cause they're thin and cause they're damn heavy. Everytime I pick one up I think to myself "self did i just pick up 2 guitars? " andyrice_13 go play some stuff NOT plugged in and find a few guitars that you like the action, neck, feel, look etc... Then try playing plugged in. I also agree with QuattroDore, if you play some fenders play through a fender amp. Good luck with the purchase :P

However, you can't play SRV or Jimi on acoustic. (I know you technically can, but its tone I'm talking about here)
This is more of a music tip than a contradiction but have you heard "Testify" unplugged. It's pretty awesome and ironically is the only SRV song I have.
As for electric I didn't have any desire to pick one up until recently. My mission is to be well rounded and I can't get there without being versed on the electric. Most of the great guitarist's can handle anything i.e. Tim, Clapton, John Mclaughlin just some that come to mind.

I dont know i've been play on a fender forever and I've grown attached to them. I have played on a couple of LP and I know they are very nice, but it all depends on what you're looking for I guess. Personally I suggest breaking out and finding another guitar company that makes really funky guitars. Those are usually very fun, cause you're not so used to them.

I play the 3 kinds of "regular" guitars : Acoustic, Electric and Classical

I love the 3 of them, Acoustic lets me go everywhere and play, most of the time go outside on my lawn and play, same for the classical

the Electric is mostly to jam with friends, it's interesting to explore all the different pedals/effects that an electric guitar can bring

I have a total of 4 guitars, 1 Amp and 10 Pedals...I'm gonna buy a second Electric guitar this summer, since I've just bought a new Acoustic that sounds insane.

anyways you got my opinion, everything is good, it all depends on who you are

well, ive got a mexican strat, and the only thing its really good for is srv blues stuff. the middle pickup sounds great, but the other two kinda suck. les pauls are much better for heavier stuff, and theyre great for rhythm, but not the best lead instruments. paul reed smiths are probably the best overall that ive played, but the ibanez jem series are great too. it all depends on what kind of tone you want.

Off and On

I think it depends on what kind of mood I'm in whether or not I play acoustic or electric. I started off as a strictly acoustic player, but I got into electrics when I bought an electric baritone. If I'm in the mood to make some noise, I plug in my Les Paul. If I'm in the mood to jam, I wip out my Takamine.

As for the whole Fender vs Les Paul thing, Gibson Les Pauls are higher quality guitars. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying one is better than the other, but if you look into the materials used to manufacture both, the Gibsons take the lead, especially until you reach the upper end models. That's the only reason I chose the Les Paul over a Strat. Otherwise, they are pretty much uncomparable because the tones they produce are totally different. Fenders give a blusier tone, while Les Pauls give you an edgy sound.

Ultimately one isn't better than the other, it's all a personal preference.

quality of les pauls these days is certainly not better than fender, unless you're up in the custom, the les paul's quality control absolutely sucks, this is a very well known fact.
