6/28 Charlotte concert last night
SO i went to the concert in Charlotte last night, had incredible seats. Driveby Truckers opened for them i believe. But it was packed and a fucking incredible show. Alot of people i met that were regulars to dave concerts said this was one of the best, and the best yet for some. Good mix of old stuff, like Two step, PNP -> Rapunzel, What you are, What would you say, Lover Lay down, One sweet world; and then a great mesh of new stuff, Stand up, Dreamgirl, L Bayou, You might die tryin, hunger for the great light, Old dirt hill, Everybody wake up. Oh and dont forget two other great ones were Dancing Nancies and Say goodbye. It was incredible!!!!!
"This is the last stop..."
How could i fucking forget, Crush oh man. Also Boyd went off quite a few times, was incredible as well as LeRoi and then Carter had this drum solo before Dancing Nancies that blew everyone away. I think the order he did them was good too. Two step, probably a 20 minute long version, ended the set and then What you are was the second encore song to end the show. simply amazing

ok so here goes. we get there, cool parties outside, but we go ahead and go inside to see where we're sitting.
...terrible seats. ugh, but as long as i can hear i don't care. i took a picture from my camera phone.

first thing's first. drive by truckers. if you ask me, they sucked. i didn't like them at all. they were lynard skynard meets the charlie daniels band only they did it badly. their lyrics were REDICULOUS. go sometime and look up some of their lyrics. you'll probably laugh your ass off of your seat.
then comes dave.
here's the setlist

one sweet world was a good opener. but they didn't do a jam version. no intro, just straight into it and straight out. but good nonetheless.
HFGL very good. so much energy and emotion. totally unlike the album version.
Crush normal but really really good. reminded me of cp. even though they slowed it down like they did on cp. i like it a little faster.
time of the season was amazing. the harmonies that they put together were freaking crazy.
they did the carter drum solo intro to say goodbye...awesome
Here's were it got crazy. i was already psyched by the time we got this far because the music was flawless they were flowing amazingly it was great. then came louisiana bayou. i persoanlly don't even like this song. i wasn't too excited when they started playing it but i was like whatever. i'll enjoy it. OH MY GOD!!! the jam at the end was one of the most incredible things i've ever heard. i was on my seat. i got chills all over my body. fucking amazing!!!!! i really can't describe it to you.
they did the central park version of dancing nancies w/ the bad ass boyd solo at the end. i realize they usually do this but what i meant by the central park version is that it was flawless like it was there.
the only noticable "not good version" was rapunzel. by then dave had lost his falsetto and realized it during the first verse. so he switched to saying the falsetto parts normal but it was disapointing cause i really really like that song. but they still jammed on it very well. oh well.
out of my hands started off really sketchy. it was hard for dave and butch to hook up rhythm wise but carter eventually started playing a little beat so that made it better.
two step...amazing as always. butch did a times ten better job jamming on it than i've heard on any live version on it.
what you are was one of the best versions i've heard.
the whole concert i really felt like i was at central park. i wish they would have played warehouse after dancing nancies cause it would have flown so well. also i was looking foward to hearing american baby just cause i wanted to hear the intro, but they didn't play it. highlights - time of the season, louisiana bayou, dancing nancies, what you are.
i completely understand the stand up album now though. it's a jam album that they didn't jam on. dave had so much emotion in his voice when singing these songs live. like btcs or uttad. a step back from some devil and stand up. plus the jams for every one of these songs was amazing. i guess you could blame the lack of jamming on the album to the producer. if so, i'd like to kick him in the teeth.
this concert was the best full band concert i've ever been to, it battles any dvd i've ever seen and was just as good as the flawless 3-29-03 d&t concert i went to. A++++++ look for this cd when it starts getting traded. and please...let me in cause i want it.

no kidding about the drive by truckers being aweful. "bulldozers and dirt", what the hell is that? you guys that were there, did you see that one guy in red just going insane during their whole set? i think he was the only guy in the place enjoying them. i was sitting right behind where he was standing, he knew every single lyric, creepy...

Dave did something along those lines when I saw What You Are in 03, and on CP. When I saw it in 03, he screamed towards the end and they made the screen shake, it was real intense. Did they do that this year?jeffro wrote:Another outstanding charlotte show! I was there, but I already posted in the most recent setlist thread.
EDIT: Also did anyone else notice dave dropping the F-bomb in What you are? "But you pray down on your knees Mother Fucker!" I thought it fit in the song really well and was cool.

I was there too!
Overall it was an incredible show.
I was a little disapointed over no Ants Marching/AATW, but closing with What You Are was mindblowing.
Time of the Season - I had no idea dave did this song, I was laughing/enjoying the whole thing
The big standout songs for me were:
One Sweet world
WWYS (favorite of the night)
Say Goodbye
Dancing Nancies
and PNP=>Rapunzel
What You Are
I wasn't really looking foward to hearing the New Album stuff live, but all the songs took on a completely different feel to them live. It had everything the album left off, and made for made for an awesome show.
I really want this show when it comes out for trading
Also at the beginning of one song (I think it was Say Goodbye) during carters solo Justin and I both jumped thinking maybe it was #36...a little let let down, but still a great version of say goodbye nonetheless.

i think this concert was just as good as cp, just on a smaller scale
lol yeah the dude in the yellow was getting into it too. i was a few rows back in section 6 last night. this one guy came up and started getting into DBT with the guy in red, but for some reason the security guard busted him for not having a seat ticket. his exact words were "nobody cares about drive by truckers so why cant i be here?" lol, good shit.gitarCASE wrote:I saw that guy in the red, i was in section 5 to the left of him looking out from the stage. He was goin crazy the whole time, and then there was a guy in a yellow shirt in the same section prolly 7-8 rows back doin the same. Hilarious
