Because I'm sure your all tired of it by now...
Here's yet another mixdown of the Grey Street joint project. This time it includes me playing twelve string and singing backup (in the right speaker, roast in the left, miguel in the center) and hayden playing bass. I know roast asked me to throw some knowledge at y'all, but since geekmug took the trouble to make a tutorial page, i'll just let that speak for itself. if you have any question about what i did, just ask in this thread or AIM me.

Ok......just listened to it...
The mix was good, the 12 er was good and so was the bass but I think another vocal track was a bit of overkill.
Fatjack your voice is pretty good but it just seemed that you were singing throughout the song as apposed to background fills. It just ended being a whole bunch of confusion to me.....other then that, it was good.

and plus, i think its a song that should really feature the vocals... i hope you don't think i spoiled your vocals or something

I listened to it too. The mix is good. The 12 string sounds great. The bass playing is good, but I think it's much too loud in the mix. Perhaps if there was drums too, it would've been okay. I really liked the fade in on Apps's chorus lead part.
Personally, I think the third vocal track was too much. I thought that even parts of mine were overkill, but the third track really makes it too busy. At times, it almost has a 'We are the World' feel to it (some of you may be too young for that one
). The choruses just make me think of a bunch of people swaying together holding hands.
The delayed 'backup' vocals during the end were replicas of Trippin's and almost gave the feel of a delay effect which doesn't work well here.
Again, I've said all along that Trippin's voice is what drives this thing. That should really be the focus. Just my opinion.

sorry if i ruined it for you guys...
the real reason i posted this was that i wanted an opinion on my voice...
and the delayed thing at the end was an accident, i was lined up with em perfectly on my recorder, but when i converted miguel's original track from mp3, the timing got messed up, and i really didn't feel like taking the time (and extreme stress of realigning it)
and i really thought that since the vocals were so good on you two guys tracks, i felt that the vocals really needed to be emphasiized, especially considering there weren't any drums
and i sincerely hope that you dont think that this sounded as gay as we are the world

WE ARE THE WORLD!!!!! WE ARE THE CHILDREN!!!
hehehe
Nah it wasn't that bad, it's just the ending bit kinda gave a me a bit of a headache cause of the timing difference.
I think thats what gave it the 'we are the world' quality.....hehe, kinda funny...
Dont stop singing though cause you do have a good voice, this recording didn't do it any justice though.

actually, it did me plenty of justice... the only reason i was able to stay on key was the fact that i had your voice to follow, if i don't have someone else's wavelengths to match up to, im pretty much lost...Trippin Hillbilly wrote:WE ARE THE WORLD!!!!! WE ARE THE CHILDREN!!!

Of course you didn't 'ruin' it man. Come on. This is just for fun anyway. If you used this as a way to build your confidence singing, than that's great. As Trippin said, your voice sounds good. If Hayden picks on your singing anymore, tell him to:fatjack wrote:sorry if i ruined it for you guys...

I agree that the vocals are what makes Grey Street so powerful. Trippin did a great job and we should be able to hear him well; after all, the guy sang his nuts off. The extra vocals just make it a bit busy. You could've always axed my part if you wanted.
