Trace Bundy question
Trace Bundy question
For those of you who are familiar with his work... I just got his CD/DVD Adapt and wondering a couple of things:
1) How does he get the guitar to make sound by hitting the strings with just the left hand fingers. When I try to do it, the sound is super faint and very un-clean.
2) How does he hit different harmonics on the guitar by slapping it with his hand? Don't you have to be touching the strings in one spot first and then hitting them?
Thanks in advance.

well, i haven't seen this thing, but i think you are referring to slap harmonics.globex wrote:Yes sorry, harmonics.
when you pluck a harmonic normally, your fretting finger acts as a node that creates a standing wave, and thusly produces the harmonic. the other hand then of course plucks it to creat a vibration.
but when you use a slap harmonic, one finger acts as both the node and the method of vibration. its a little more difficult to pull off, but not by any means impossible
yes all that science is nice, but heres my advice for doing it... put the body of the guitar between your legs and using your right index finger slap all the way across the 12th fret, making sure to pull away quickly. when you get the hang of the feel, you'll be able to do it in any position with any finger.

i misinterpreted the question, which is why i gave that particular answer, but i suppose the answer you gave him was the one he was really looking for
The harmonics that i am unsure of that trace does happen in dueling ninjas. It is the second time through during the main riff part, after the chourus thing, then intro again, then this part. He simply touches the strings w his right index finger around the (23) fret and creates a harmonic. His left hand is doing the main riff thing in second in first position. I dont know how to get sound simply by touching the string w a finger. he is touching open strings and creating a harmonic w his right finger by touching the string at the imaginary 23 fret. Not picking anything, just touching his right finger to the open string. WHos got it?????\

To make the notes strong when only tapping the strings w the left hand it just takes practice and finger strength. Alot of the notes he creates by pulling off to open string w force. Just practice dueling ninjas left hand melody to get comfortable. It takes time to get your fingers strong enough to sustain powerful notes but definatly not too diffucult. THe slap harmonics can be done w a quick, distinct slap at the 5, 7, 12, 17, 23 fret. even 9 also. This is easier than the harmoncis created w just the right hand touchin an open string around 17, or 23.globex wrote:For those of you who are familiar with his work...
