Dashboard Confessional (New Question about tuning)

Unread post by czech » Sun Jun 19, 2005 1:33 pm

OK,
Yes, I know Chris Carrabba isnt a great guitarist and their songs are very simple, but i've been kind of stumped when listening to the MTV Unplugged album.

Listening to their studio albums this asshole plays in multiple different tunings, but I was wondering if someone knew what he is playing the unplugged album in, i'm assuming he didnt just switch guitars for each tuning for each song and there's no way he retuned from EbAbDbGbBbDb to some other weird one is seconds.

anyone listen and know?

I've seen them live before. He has about 25 guitars on stage each with a different tuning he just switches out after each song.

i have know idea, but i've seen people play these songs, and for most of them you really don't need the different tunings

this jackass goes to the trouble of tuning his guitar differently, and he still ends up just playing power chords

that kind of sucks asshole for people who want to play your music and dont own 25 guitars and are too lazy too change tuning every fucking song.

Thats weird, the album sounded like it was all played on two different guitars.
my ear sucks anyways.

he played at my friends college this year, and none of the stupid teeny bopper girls could understand why i hated him, though i tried to explain his twenty five guitar thing to them. is it too much to ask to just want to play screaming infidelities for a best friend whose girlfriend has cheated on him at an open mic? honestly, standard and drop d, maybe even drop C if your john mayer, and some raised B once in awhile. but DbAbDbDbDbDb?? honestly, stop. that's why i hate him.

EDIT: and he once described playing a concert as a "emotional rollercoaster". and that his concerts are sing alongs. other then that...

My MTV Unplugged album came with a DVD of the show and he definitely uses at least three or four different guitars (you can tell by color and shape, etc) to play the songs.

too each their own...

for me, I think his lyrics are way too criticized and judged as emo too quick. I think his lyrics are some of the more honest words I hear spoken.

Yes, they are mostly about heartbreak, but he doesnt throw out trite fucking meaningless lines, his words are pretty well tghought out and deep.

As far as the "sing a long" thing, thats where my love hate relationship with carrabba is. I hate hearing 12 year old girls singing to it, but I catch myself doing the same

and him using sooo many weird tunings, I understand that it makes it much easier to play certain chords and makes it sound unique, but damn man........

i actually don't mind his lyrics at all. i've even used them once or twice in my info/as an away message. they are clever and well thought out. my main complaint is when i bought MTV unplugged(which actually is a real cool album) i was pissed that the first two songs were him lightly strumming and the audience singing. the sing along concept when used right is cool, but don't let your entire song get sung. but i like the guy. i forgot to mention when i was yelling at the teeny bopper girls i was drunk as could be, and when you're drunk it's fun to make fun of teeny boppers. from personal experience.
