Most Underated/Overated song(s)

Unread post by Elliottman » Sat Jun 04, 2005 4:01 am

Ill start by saying i dont doubt for a second this has been done - but what the hell?

Ok DMB solo or with the Band. Im going for -

Overated - The Last Stop. Now i like this song, but i do think its slighty overated and can may just maybe get on your nerves slighty.

Underated - Im going to have to go for Stay or Leave. I think this is an amazing song, i would go as far to say this is could be oe of the best songs he's written. Its just so sweet.
And also i would say YKN.

Wtf?

Anyway,

Underrated [From the perspective of hardcore fans]: Pretty much all of Everyday, its really good in the adultrock genre compared to other bands, but we still hate it... why?

Overrated [From the perspective of casual fans]: Crash, great song but way to poppy for all the worship that it recieves. I love to listen to it all the time but geez, it goes in the same playlist as my Blink182 songs, not Dylan.
For all my posts, just add "I think" in the beginning and "in my opinion" in the end. Now shut up!

Last Stop is overrated?

Get the Last Stop from the Central Park Bonus disc or from Live Trax 1 and tell me its overrated. These versions are some of the best of any DMB song.

Ive got Live Trax 1 and i just think people make too much of this song. Id listen to Halloween over the TLS all day long.

i think bartender is overrated. that song never does anything for me, also DDTW, spoon, SMTS
For us living any other ways was nuts. with all the goodie-goodies working shitty jobs for bum pay checks, took the subway work and worried about their bills were dead. they were suckers, they had no balls. if we wanted something we just took it, and if anybody complained twice they got hit so hard believe me they never complained again

Underrated - Dave Matthews without the band. I never hear anything about it. It's almost taboo to talk about on most DMB forums.

Overrated - What would you say (this song does nothing for me), Don't Drink The Water.

I think I can sum up my overrated/underrated with the Everyday Album.

The song "Everyday" is extremely overrated, but there are some other choice songs from the album like "If I had It All" and "What You Are" that are extremely underrated.
Favorite Shows:

DMB: 12/11/02 (Phillips Arena, Atlanta GA)
D&T: 03/29/03 (Appalachian State, Boone NC)

Ben Harper: 6/22/04 (Hammersmith Apollo, London UK)
The Allman Brothers Band: 9/26/04 (Fox Theater, Atlanta GA)
Van Halen: 9/17/04 (Atlanta, GA)

Overrated - Hunger for the great light (I loath this song but will probably like it more when it is played live)
as well as Recently. Although the band really likes playing it, I just think the song is not one of his finest musicall or lyrically. It can often get draggy as well. The emotional aspect of it is rather static.

Underated - The Space Between. This song got put on the back burner for being associated with Everyday, but I think it is gorgeous, a wonderful song to sing along with, and a superb music video. (You have to be from Seattle like me to really appreciate rain's romantic effect)

Stay (Wasting time) is long maligned by many, but I think it more than any other is the song that characterises DMB's live effect. It gets your toes a-tapping, lets you sing along, is groovy as hell, is a perfect climax for any DMB concert.
Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away

over-rated: Crash, Satellite, Everyday

Under-rated: PFWYG, Dreaming Tree, Typical Situation

but i might be biased by the mere rarity of some songs. the more i hear a song (or at least the more it's played), the more i think it's over rated
