playing drums w/ feet while playing guitar

Unread post by gravesRR7 » Fri May 27, 2005 8:55 pm

So i'm seriously considering getting myself a bass drum, a snare drum and 4 pedals.

2 pedals on the bass
1 pedal for the snare (which i will hook up a stick to the fulcrum)
1 pedal for a stick on the side of the snare

anyone know of anyone who does similar stuff who i can get ideas from?

i'm pretty sure i can drum with my feet while playing. it'll take some practice. but i think it would kick ass for the open mic nights i do at school

Xavier Rudd usually has got a little kickdrum going while he plays. And when you see him perform live, the kickdrum really is powerful, and resonates throughout the whole theater.

For us living any other ways was nuts. with all the goodie-goodies working shitty jobs for bum pay checks, took the subway work and worried about their bills were dead. they were suckers, they had no balls. if we wanted something we just took it, and if anybody complained twice they got hit so hard believe me they never complained again

I love how everyone around Willie just looks pissed off at him.

Dude, I had a drum set at my house forever and I never once thought of doin somthin like that, that would be the shit for a solo performance for sure. you should make a recording once you get the setup.

Can you say drum machine with midi pedals? :)

Most of them allows you to sample sounds as well, so you can play a cow going "moo" if you'd like to.

Also, they sure sound pretty authentic to me, at least when you start checking at the more expensive stuff.

Its not as cool though. :?

what is that?

is that just like an electronic board with a bunch of pedals on it?

EDIT**

I just looked them up. but they seem strange. looks like you have to program something in, and it'll play it?

can you use these live and set up the diff drums you want, and assign them to diff pedals?

i saw the midi pedals too. but they look like they're just for FX. can you hook up, say..... 3 pedals to one drum machine. and have one pedal be bass. one snare, one high hat? something like that

You program them with beats. If youve ever used something like Fruity Loops (music software) you know how they work, pretty much.

Set the tempo, hit the buttons (one per sound) for every beat you want it to sound, then just save it. Lots of extra features too, I suppose.

Im sure you can find one that allows you to have dedicated pedals for each sound, but its way easier to program your beats and use pedals for start/stop and fills etc. Less cheesy with live stomping though.

To be honest I know very little about drum machines (dont need them myself), I suggest you check them out though, considering what youre after. Its way easier to lug a box around than a set of drums too.

How are you supposed to hit all the drums accurately with only two feet btw?

EDIT: Regarding MIDI pedals, theres virtually no limitations to midi pedals. The pedals themselves just send triggers and can trigger whatever you hook them up to, as long as the triggered device supports it. Same goes for functions, the pedals can do what the device allows you to do.
For all my posts, just add "I think" in the beginning and "in my opinion" in the end. Now shut up!
