Hand/Eye coordination related to guitar talent?

Unread post by charliemike » Tue May 31, 2005 3:42 pm

What I mean by that is that do people with better H/E coordination pick up musical instruments easier than those with sub-average H/E coord.?

My guess would be yes because good H/E coordination seems to correspond to being able to move and use one's hands better based upon what the brain sends signals to the hands to do for those that have good H/E coord.

I could be blowing this out my ass but I've been thinking about it.

Naturally, I couldn't a beachball on a tee :)

Well if you are always reading music then yes. But I do most of my playing from memory so for me H/E cordination has nothing to do with it imo.

Normally good math skills makes for a good musician since music is basically math. Though there are exceptions.

i think being an artist helps me, but not because of hand eye coordination, just because i have more control over my fine motor skills.

i agree, also i think you become used to using your mind and using your hands or whatever to convey it, so it becomes more mind hand codination

A lot of the time when I play something I dont even think about it. I just play it. Like Satelite, Joy of a Man's Desiring, and the One Sweet World Intro. If I were to think about it I would screw up. So for me at least I dont even use my mind very much when playing.
