Changing tunings
Changing tunings
does changing the tuning frequently put any more wear and tear on the strings than normal?

Not really. Only if you're doing something like using medium guage strings and tuning to open A.
Turn the pegs slowly when re-tuning, make sure you've got at least two wraps around the tuning pegs, and play for 5-10 minutes before you change the tuning.
Changing tunings often will definitely wear down your strings faster, though. No way to prevent that, unfortunately.
