the first section basically sounded like you were just spanking your guitar, no really clear notes (and you are totally missing the slap harmonic)

the chord section needs more meat behind it. you are just strumming like you normally would for any or song: put some umph behind it

the tapping section is played accurately, but there are problems with expression. work on bringing the bass out more, you can barely hear it. and you instantly shift to a faster tempo when you go to this section. listen to the album version song if you are able to. he plays it much slower than on the larivee video and you can really get a feel for each line.

Not bad. Try to get the slapping down a bit more, and remember the slap of the string against the fretboard has a rhythem to it. If you watch the video of him in the coffee house or cafeteria (with the asian chicks behind him) you'll definitely notice that the rhythem he uses to drum on the guitar before he starts playing, is the same rhythem he uses while he's playing. (I hope that made sense.)

The tapping is good though. Nice job.

Phunkdified tab:

Code: Select all

Justin King - Larrivee Video / Phunkdafied

Transcribed by Brendan Cordy, Robert Wilczynski, and the
musicianforums.com community.

Notes:

I decided I really wanted to develop my slap playing, so I
started tabbing this out. A big thanks to the other
transcribers I mentioned, this never would have been put
together if not for them.

The line under the tab marked by ! shows dynamics, S is for
thumb slap, P is for pop, T is for right hand tapping, and
H is for a hand slap over the twelfth fret.

Note that when I play slapped notes, my t

humb contacts the
string just over the end of the fingerboard

, I dont bother
to play the slapped notes way up the neck as Justin does.
Check out the video to see what I mean.

You can find a video of this peice at....

Q = about 132 bpm

The song goes...

Tapping Section

/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Mute the strings and whack away, then slide down from a
slapped note on the twelfth fret of the lowest string.

There are only very slight variations on this in the video.

Here there are lots of variations, Ive just outlined the
most basic one he plays (first time he plays this section).
The second time, he uses the same chord pattern almost all
the time but moves it around a bit. You\'ll have to fill in
the gaps there.

The best part of the whole song, it sounds great, and is
very fun to play, not too much variation on this bit in
the song. This section is surprisingly easy to play, just
start slow and make sure every note sounds good before
you speed it up.

the vaginal fluid they are secreting is the same composition of urine minus the uric acid and phosphorous. i learned that in 11th grade anatomy. btw, sometimes it does have a FAINT smell of Pizzle.

Well of course it's not, he plays it differently every time. But it definitely gives you the gist of what to do. Seriously, if you need a perfectly accurate tab for this song, you're trying way to hard to play it just like [one] of the versions that Justin plays. Mix it up a bit.

Also,
I don't think the tapping sections for any of the three versions I've heard are even remotely close, aside from the bass line, that still gets mixed up.

perhaps this is just a song we might leave to justin king. I'm not doubting anyone's ability to play the notes, but to get it just right might be a little unreasonable. anyway, I've been playing for about 5 years and am more than adequate with a pick in my hand. a lotta of my stuff has been recommended that i play without a pick, some people say itll make my stuff a lot smoother, but i dun really know how. any advice on strumming, slapping, and such w/o a pick. any sights would be of help too. thanks a lot.

i have some insight... dont do it. if youre gonna strum use a pick. otherwise its too smuggly and in my experience is much more buzzy unless you use a flamenco strumming pattern

well, i like to think I am very good with a pick, I'd just like to broaden my skills i guess. Theres a lotta stuff that's much easier to do w/o a pick, or has to be done w/o a pick, and I am quite interested.
