LILYWHITE STATIC
Does anyone know what actually went down with the band and Mr. Lilywhite to provoke such obviously broken bridges between the two camps? I know Carter said that Steve gave him very little control over his drum sound, and Dave said that Lilywhite would always turn his guitar down and Timmy way up. Other than that I am at a loss, some info please.

You've taken the quote by Dave out of context. And this topic has been discussed ad nausem on several DMB forums.
Bands hire different producers all the time. As for the inner machinations of the band, it's impossible to know and useless to speculate on.

Dave was depressed, drinking too much and getting fed up because Lillywhite is a perfectionist (he made Dave sing SUAD over 90 times during the sessions). The whole band didn't really feel that the sessions were moving in the right direction, but nobody said anything about it until Carter finally talked up and said it is time for a change. Dave then called Lillywhite on the phone and told him they wanted to go in another direction, Dave said that Lillywhite handled it well, but when people ask Lillywhite any question about DMB he just says he doesn't discuss matters about the Dave Matthews Band anymore.

Would you? Lillywhite was producing A-List performers long before and long after DMB.Nitro1515 wrote:Dave was depressed, drinking too much and getting fed up because Lillywhite is a perfectionist (he made Dave sing SUAD over 90 times during the sessions). Oh no, I wouldn't. I'll bet Lillywhite is having a nice laugh listening to their lastest efforts.jellyfish wrote:Discuss matters about DMBNitro1515 wrote:Would I what?c_tietze wrote:Would you? Yeah, Stand Up definitely rocks the suckalitude compared to the earlier stuff, as a matter a fact, I popped in everyday this morning and have to admit that it is about ten times the album the new one is. I think we all were a little too harsh on that record.Nitro1515 wrote:Oh no, I wouldn't. Stand up is massively better than Everyday. Everyday was/is way to "poopy" and in the Britney Spears market. I did it, Space Between, When The World Ends, Fool To Think - maybe ok songs but compared to Dream Girl, Bayou, HFTGL and Old Dirt Hill, Stand up is way better.................IMO

Strongly disagree, Stand Up is WAY more pop than everydayDale_Milligan wrote:Skankerton wrote:Yeah, Stand Up definitely rocks the suckalitude compared to the earlier stuff, as a matter a fact, I popped in everyday this morning and have to admit that it is about ten times the album the new one is. What you Are, If I had it all, fool to think, songs like that wouldnt catch on mainstream, mostly any song off of stand up is actually radio friendly

I agree with I had it all and What you are but i think they are possibly the only two on the whole album that arent that poppy. I think it terms of what the UK would listen to, Everyday would appeal to the UK allot more than Stand UP I think. Maybe its different in US?

When The World Ends, So Right, Fool To Think, If I Had It All, and What You Are are all amazing tunes that are better and less poppy than a good bit of Stand Up. I listen to Stand Up all the time, like it, and will continue to listen to it. However, Stand Up has more songs that could be on the radio and be more considered poppy.Dale_Milligan wrote:I agree with I had it all and What you are but i think they are possibly the only two on the whole album that arent that poppy.
