Come on man... Leroi misses a lot. I was at the Utah show this year, he missed so many notes it was sort of depressing. And people bitch about Boyd being outta tune, but sometimes, Leroi flat out misses on the sax, so to say what you just did is a huge stretch.i like tictacs wrote:The thing with leroi is that he is very unflashy and always plays what fits. Jeff, despite being an AMAZING player, probably one of the most talented out there right now, gets very busy and hard to swallow at times. leroi is always solid as fuck and never misses a beat.

Leroi can be weak at improv...great at the usual riffs tho...but when soloing he simply runs out of ideas and squeals

I know the feeling. I hate it when sax players make all sorts of annoying squawking noises and call it improvising. Leroi doesn't do it as much, Maceo Parker does it from time to time, but Jeff Coffin does it all the time.

i dunno whose thread to quote...but someone said about jeff making leroi lookin like a monkey with a kazoo...and i cant argue with that, i mean maybe leroi knows more theory but is less capable, or whatever, maybe jeff is better in every aspect...but in terms of talent all the flecktones make dmb look like monkeys with strings, sticks, and kazoos...not to say dmb isnt talented but the flecktones are just superior. however, that doesnt mean that all flecktones songs are better...sometimes the best song is simple

I said that. I agree with you, that the Flectones are superior. I also agree that it doesnt mean that all flecktones songs are better. I was just saying, Leroi is really good, but there are certainly better. I think that all the other instruments in the band, the respective players play with their own style, and if they were to be replaced, a change in sound would be noticed. My opinion is that the sax is one of those instruments, where its difficult to add your own style too. In a nutshell, Coffin is superior to Leroi.i am sam2 wrote:i dunno whose thread to quote...but someone said about jeff making leroi lookin like a monkey with a kazoo...and i cant argue with that, i mean maybe leroi knows more theory but is less capable, or whatever, maybe jeff is better in every aspect...but in terms of talent all the flecktones make dmb look like monkeys with strings, sticks, and kazoos...not to say dmb isnt talented but the flecktones are just superior. however, that doesnt mean that all flecktones songs are better...sometimes the best song is simple
