Re: good ole' boyd
regardless of what key the song is in he can still adjust where he puts his fingers on the the fingerboard to alter his pitch. if boyd was in fact a very skilled violinist he would be able so play each song in a different position. it would still be the same notes but in a different place on the neck of the violin. much like on a guitar when you can play the same chord/note all over the entire guitar.musicalman865 wrote:He has to play to the key of the song reeehalloweenislife wrote:everyone seems to spend so much time talking about how boyd is out of tune, which of course, i am unable to deny. however, a much greater problem exists - boyds incredible love for eight notes. i was shocked this summer at some of the concerts when he was playing triplets, it was incredible. in addition to that, he also is very fond of staying on a major scale throughout his entire solos. i had a little change in that this summer as well, but that may have been accidental.
also, as a violin player myself, i am disgusted with his intonation in two respects.
1. he refuses to re-tune his instrument or switch instruments after songs
and
2. when you are playing violin, even if your instrument is out of tune you can fix it by shifting your fingers higer or lower on the neck depending on the problem. the fact that boyd doesn't do this means that either he is always playing in open position (wich is often true) and that he is completely tone deaf. or both.
that was a little rough on boyd, i would agree that dmb would be much different without him.
oh yeah, and being in france is many times better than being in the states. just so you know.

that is like saying "boyd can play out of tune(or key) if he wants too, its his solo"HCHaikuWarrior wrote:he can mess up on the lyrics all he wants, it's his song, he can feel free to change the words as he wishes. IMO.
if dave purposley changes his lyrics, hes allowed to do that but if not, then its his fault
For us living any other ways was nuts. with all the goodie-goodies working shitty jobs for bum pay checks, took the subway work and worried about their bills were dead. they were suckers, they had no balls. if we wanted something we just took it, and if anybody complained twice they got hit so hard believe me they never complained again

no, i think changing the lyircs would be equivilent to boyd doing a different solo, that still works...because if dave changes the lyrics, but still with the right melody, then it works, and its not like being out of tune.mrjones wrote:that is like saying "boyd can play out of tune(or key) if he wants too, its his solo"HCHaikuWarrior wrote:he can mess up on the lyrics all he wants, it's his song, he can feel free to change the words as he wishes. for dave, the equivalent for being out of tune would be singing off key
the words are just another part of the song, carter doesnt do the same stuff every time, nor should he have too, because hes the drummer so whatever he does, as long as it works, is right for the song. the same with dave, whatever he sings, if its in the right key and melody, is fine, and he can do it as much as he wants.

There are plenty of countries where the locals are far more hostile towards Americans than France.bbatsell wrote:halloweenislife wrote:oh yeah, and being in france is many times better than being in the states. just so you know.![]()

in my time in france, i haven't met a single local who was hostile towards americans. there are a good number who hate george bush, but they don't have the same mindset as americans do that if one person does something that you don't agree with, you should blame their entire race for it. *clears throat*
i think he is just jealous that your country was smart enough not to send troops over to the hopeless deathtrap named iraq
let the flaming begin but i just wanna say first of all i support the troops wholeheartedly, infact 2 of my best friends parents spend a combined 3 tours in iraq, I am just against the way our president went about all of this war
