hmm i think id put stefan above carter... and i didnt know butch was so flawless
stefan is very very accurate...and fonzy's bass lines are much easier than Carter's fills
thats like saying drums are easier than bass, or something equally and utterly retarded

and sam, when did he mess up in the star spangled banner? i don't think he was following any guidlines, it was just improv, so unless his hand slipped off the fretboard or something, it looked good to me
yeah you dont really notice it unless your watching the dvd...its right on his face when he does it (pretty close to the end of it) where his hand slips off and cuts the note off clearly before he wanted it too. he makes a face laughing at himself when it happens. its not a huge messup by any means...just the only thing ive ever caught (to demonstrate his accuracy)

Maybe not worst, but let me just say that it's clear that DMBiewski hasn't heard a concert where Boyd was out of tune.

Yeah, he should check out that Pig gone wrong that someone posted in this forum. The first 10 seconds made me want to slit my wrists.

In Boyds defense the violin is by far the most touchy instrument in the band. Although it seems like he could have a couple of violins tuned and ready so he can switch em' out. He's out of tune way more than he should be.

Definitely. I wouldn't have a problem with it if it didn't seem like he was completely oblivious to the fact that he was out of tune. He'll just keep playing with that grin and not do a thing to fix things. I've seriously wondered before whether he's tone-deaf, because it would at least help me understand why he does things like he does. He's clearly a good musician.

good ole' boyd

Unread post by halloweenislife » Sat May 21, 2005 9:05 am

everyone seems to spend so much time talking about how boyd is out of tune, which of course, i am unable to deny. however, a much greater problem exists - boyds incredible love for eight notes. i was shocked this summer at some of the concerts when he was playing triplets, it was incredible. in addition to that, he also is very fond of staying on a major scale throughout his entire solos. i had a little change in that this summer as well, but that may have been accidental.

also, as a violin player myself, i am disgusted with his intonation in two respects.

1. he refuses to re-tune his instrument or switch instruments after songs

and

2. when you are playing violin, even if your instrument is out of tune you can fix it by shifting your fingers higer or lower on the neck depending on the problem. the fact that boyd doesn't do this means that either he is always playing in open position (wich is often true) and that he is completely tone deaf. or both.

that was a little rough on boyd, i would agree that dmb would be much different without him.
