I honestly think if Boyd was never in the band, it wouldn't have taken away from much. Like in Roseland where he was turned down so low, and they cranked Butch, Butch picks up all of his slack and then some. Sorry BT, just not a fan. Oh and Boyd single handidly makes DMB top five ugliest bands ever right under Green Day and Tom Petty.
i guess they had they might have put the wrong BT in the band.... but yea i think boyd is needed in the band in a way. but i have to say im really liking the stuff butch does more and more...like in 2 step jams i have been listening to when he goes crazy on the piano...i really dig it

You mean the one from 2002? I've heard that one and you are right. Its rediculous how noticeably out of tune he is, near the end when he plays those four notes drawn out.Dutch17 wrote:ya agreed on boyd. ever heard the 41 jam with the flecktones? om the thing is great until the end when boyd starts playing and is sooo out of tune it makes my face hurts

there would not be a dmb without boyd. and i'm not just saying that in the figurative "oh he is SO dmb" bullshit sense. i mean literally, no band. part of the reason they had so much chemistry together was what boyd added to stuff, have you ever head the story about their tripping billies recording?KahnTheRevelator wrote:I honestly think if Boyd was never in the band, it wouldn't have taken away from much..
boyd was kinda the glue for a while, and also sort of a front man as he talked a lot more than dave did in the beginning.
"Forget about what you are escaping from," he said, quoting an old maxim of Kornblum's. "Reserve your anxiety for what you are escaping to."

He might be out of tune every now and then (or more often) but still, hes one of two elements (leroi being the other) that make them different then a lot of rock bands. Youd think hed be in tune more often but still, he is an amazing musician and I like what he brings.Jay wrote:there would not be a dmb without boyd. and i'm not just saying that in the figurative "oh he is SO dmb" bullshit sense. i mean literally, no band. part of the reason they had so much chemistry together was what boyd added to stuff, have you ever head the story about their tripping billies recording?KahnTheRevelator wrote:I honestly think if Boyd was never in the band, it wouldn't have taken away from much..

Dave goofs up lyrics frequently when playing solo. He has messed up the "so much you have...." part in crush several times and sang "crazy, I'm thinking" by mistake.

I don't know who "screws up the most" but I can say that the weakest member of Dave Matthews Band musically speaking, with regard to timing, composition and accuracy is Dave Matthews.
He's always been the weakest link musically. He writes great songs and has the it factor, but consider why he surrounded himself with some of the best jazz players around.
At one point Dave never even thought he would sing his own songs and he was most definitely a "closet-guitarist".
EDIT: Don't get me wrong, I love Dave's music and I appreciate it greatly how the songs are always a little different with regard to lyrics and performance.
