A little tired?
A little tired?
Anyone here think that some songs are becomming a little "old and tired". I was listening to Two Step from Roseland and the song has sounded EXACTLY the same since 1998. It went through many phases before that...Red Rocks style phase, 1992 phase, even differences in between there...but since 1998(around) the song hasn't really changed at all. Many of the older songs should be tweaked a little to make them sound fresh and newer.
I know everyone wants to hear "the songs they love" but they will...just with a fresh makeover. I don't know...maybe it's why I haven't gone to more than 1 concert since 2002(appx). Just thinking outloud at work...peace

Re: A little tired?
I can see where you're coming from, but the cool thing is, some songs are sounding even more alive and fresh. For example, The Stone is starting to get jammed out quite a bit. When I saw it last year I almost shit my pants.jkanter wrote:Anyone here think that some songs are becomming a little "old and tired". Re: A little tired?
Definetly agree... I have been thinking about this a lot lately. I guess maybe the band has had these thoughts as well but instead of remaking old songs they are going in a new musical direction.jkanter wrote:Anyone here think that some songs are becomming a little "old and tired". I was going to make a new thread but it probably fits in here...
After listening to Stand Up a few times I tossed in BTCS for the sake of contrast. I really noticed how much Dave's voice has changed. (Listen to Dreamgirl and then Rapunzel back to back and you'll see what I mean.) His voice has gotten scratchier and less smooth, maybe as a result of smoking or possibly just aging - a la Bob Dylan, in a much less pronounced way.
Anyone else notice this?

Watch the VH1 special when he goes to Africa with Trey, he smokes and has a cigarette behind his ear for most of the show.myonlybliss wrote:why haven't i ever seen him with a cigarette in any concerts, videos, interviews, pics, etc....?wkpggrvn2001 wrote:yes he doesmyonlybliss wrote:SillyPutty wrote:I was going to make a new thread but it probably fits in here...

Dave is singing like that because Batson told him he should. Listen to You Might Die Trying and you'll hear the old Dave.SillyPutty wrote:I was going to make a new thread but it probably fits in here...

Personally I think Batson has done nothing to help this band. But that's just my opinion.

maybe he makes it a point not to smoke at those times? go listen to a few d&t shows he mentions it. in cincy in 2002 he said he had quit smoking for 8 days. then later on in an article in Rolling Stone they mention him walking to the door to have a smoke. Damn ive typed all this before...myonlybliss wrote:why haven't i ever seen him with a cigarette in any concerts, videos, interviews, pics, etc....?wkpggrvn2001 wrote:yes he doesmyonlybliss wrote:SillyPutty wrote:I was going to make a new thread but it probably fits in here...

In reference to the original question about the songs getting old, I would have to disagree. Check out 2004s Too Much. They completely revamped the song, changing the middle instrumental part and adding an extended outro. Also I read (dmbalmanac probably) that in Australia they played a new intro and outro to Dont Drink the Water, making it a near 10 minute long song. If you are looking for a different Two Step though, look for the thread I made called "sweet two step jam." Its a version from 98 with a kickin dueling electric guitar/banjo with tim and bela.
Peace

YES. Its always been my biggest worry about Dave, him fucking his voice over from smoking too much pot and cigs. I pray everyday that he quits. And soon.SillyPutty wrote:I was going to make a new thread but it probably fits in here...

Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away
