here's my breakdown of the album:
songs that suck
Stolen away on 55th & 3rd - lack of carter. backup singing doesn't work.
Everybody wake up - verse singing is really weak. it doesn't really have a melody, he's just talking up and down.
Hunger for the great light - stephan on guitar. 'nuff said.
songs that are ok
Stand Up - stand up chant is annoying.
Dreamgirl - guitar riff seems rushed like he pulled it out of his ass and didn't revise it at all. verse singing is weak.
Smooth Rider - lack of carter.
Old Dirt Hill - machine drums suck. has potial for being better live, however. probably would have made the good list if carter was playing.
songs that are good
American baby intro - really good jam, the rest is extraneous though.
American Baby - i like the bass. the jam at the end is amazing
Out of my hands - dave is good on piano
Hello again - dave made it without mark
Louisiana Bayou - i heard the live one, which was better.
You might die trying - overall, good.
Steady as we go - i'm liking the piano songs.

i'm not making an excuse as to why i like the album - i like the album cause its good music (for the most part) - if DMB make 6 studio albums that had a UTTAD feel for all of them, i'd get bored - yes some of their best songs are on that cd, but i'd just get bored listening to that all day - Crash and BTCS were both new directions for the band, as is Stand Up - its refreshing to hear Stand Up, new, different, but still DMB - hope that helped "justify" my first postNitro1515 wrote:I don't understand when people say this. It's as if they are trying to create excuses in their head to make the new CD sound better than it actually is. How could you not want more UTTAD's or songs like that? It's their signature sound, its what they are best at and it is probably one of the main reasons you become a fan of the band.DJR07 wrote:overall i like this album, its a new direction like everyone else has said, but it'd be boring if the band made 6 UTTAD's - i'm a fan of the cd, good stuff overall

I really like the album too. I just hate people who whine constantly when they don't get what they want from the band. I completely agree, UTTAD, BTCS, Crash, all great albums. But those were like 10 years ago.. The band is trying a new sound, big whoop. If you don't like it, don't listen to the new album! I'm sure you'll be able to deal with itDJR07 wrote:i need to take a nap after that postBeauford33 wrote:The only looks I dont "like" Stolen Away, but Ill never skip it. Hahah... anyone here with the dual disc watched the documentary part yet? At the end during the credits dave just keeps sayin random things, I think he likes to hear himself talk but it's completely hilarious... if you haven't watched it yet I urge you to do so.
