freebird

Unread post by ballmeblazer » Mon May 09, 2005 8:49 pm

i know the saying is at least once in their life playing music every person who plays guitar will be asked to play freebird. i was wondering if anyone has actually ever played freebird upon request. the reason i ask is because this weekend i went up to my friends college, and was just chillin, playing guitar, and one of my friends yells out freebird. so i didn't say a word, and he said, do it for drugs(delaney, from outside providence. that was the song from his funeral. drugs was a good shit) so i played the first four lines just because his comment was original and it made me laugh? but has anyone else ever played freebird or have i committed a cardinal sin?

i think actually playing it would be the meccha (correct spelling and usage?) of performing because everyone asks and no one expects it to happen. so if you actually did it...well it might suck and theyd be dissapointed but if its good then they like you forever

That song is awesome. I doubt it can be done with one person though. Lynyrd Skynyrd had like 3 guitars playing during the solo and everything. I bet you could do it but it would take some rewriting, at least for the solo. I dont remember how many parts there were for the verses and whatnot.

I remember someone on these boards telling me that at one John Mayer show someone in the croud yelled 'play freebird'. He took of his capo and played the whole solo, then went back to the song he was going to do. I think that is pretty cool, i mean i wish i could do that. lol

it's not good enough to be played as often as it is.
