What parts do you like?
I know alot of people arent happy with Stand Up. Im curious what parts and songs you like because there are some moments that are very powerful and in my opinion just as good as the old DMB we love.
Steady As We Go and Hunger for the Great Light are powerful to me. Listening to them back to back i think is the greatest part of the album to me. I think its because that the lyrics reminds me of me and my girlfriend.
I want to know what parts you guys like ?

i haven't heard the album enough to comment on that, you know, since the album didn't officially leak 8)
i definetely love "steady as we go", "stolen away" and "old dirt hill". as well as "american baby", "hello again", "everybody wake up", "louisiana bayou","you might die trying" and "dream girl".

random order
Stolen Away.. it's simple.. it's sweet.. it's almost heartbreaking, but it sounds so smooth when Boyd comes in.. it sort of reminds me of how the violin 'cries' during 'Say Goodbye'.
Everybody Wake Up.. the intro.. Sick. Mandolin and Violin layered over guitar , the song is good. Simple to play, but it sounds good. The outro.. sorta like the new Warehouse outro, samba beat, love it.
Out Of My Hands.. I like it.. it's still growing on me.. gotta give it a few more listens.. Definitely a Some Devil candidate.
Smooth Rider.. "They Call me Smooth D. Well if they don't, they should" I probably screwed that quote up.. but I like this song. It's not a song for Boyd And Roi to play on.. at least I don't think. I mean they could've, but it works for what it is.
Old Dirt Hill... 'Bring that Beat back to me again'... Carter actually gets to sing up front rather than Dave's backup.. granted he is dave's backup, this song showcases him well. That and the song is fun to drive to. Try it, I dare you.
Stand Up.. STEFAN SINGS. From the shadows of stage left to the edge of the stage pumping his fists for the Warehouse 'whoo's', He's emerged as a solid member of the band, rather than just the 'bassist'
American Baby Intro.. should've been a whole damn song.. What She Said. Solid.
American Baby... meh.. radio edit sucks.. the end jam is what it's all about
Dreamgirl... the African chants, the 'hollow' guitar sound.. not the best of the album, but still good
Hunger... HARDCORE DMB BITCHES. What You Are and Watchtower are a couple of examples of how the band can rip it up.. this one just follows up with some dirty dirty lyrics.
Bayou.. Swamp Stomp. Boyd owns it. It's wicked hahdcohr and will be a beast live
Hello Again.. I do not like the vocals.. I do like the song, I wish the vocals were cleaner though. Works for me, cause I know it'll be worth seeing live again.
You Might Die Trying... first one I learned how to play because the guitar part is most discernable in the beginning.. it's a dark moody with a caution message with a tech-beat bass outro complimented by the violin layers and sax.. different.. but perfect for this album
Steady As We Go... Dave on Piano is gold. I do wish they will bring a baby grand out for an encore for him to do this. Granted, butch will be the one filling in for the keys.. but hey, you never know.
that is all.. I'm sure this is what the thread was about.. if not, then I just went off on my own review. Peace

im mostly interested in hearing what "moments" or "parts" of this album people enjoy the most and touch them the most. after all music is supposed to touch us and move us right? a random example would be the jam during LIOG with the voices in the background. the voices always make me think that theres always tommorrow or better days ahead.
are there any moments on this album that gets you alittle "choked up"(i couldnt think of any other way to put it) everytime you hear it

The American Baby intro is one of the highlights of the album for me. When he comes in singing "What she said.." so fucking good. Has kind of a Pete Yorn vibe going on. Should have definitely been a whole song. Maybe they'll play it out live.
You Might Die Trying is great. The instrumental stuff is very solid. The song has a great groove.
I love Louisana Bayou as well. "Down by the Ba-you! Try to play with the cane, you!" Fucking sweet song. As far as songs getting you choked up, I don't think any songs did for their content or music, except this one, and the reason is that it reminds me of old DMB. Which is a fucking good thing. My friend and I were listening to the stream at work, looked at each other and said "DMB is fucking back bitch!" The album has it's weak points, but this song is a fucking higher than high point for me.
I like Hunger For The Great Light, but I think the T5 sounds like shit in the beginning.

Im really starting to love this cd, the more I listen the more I like. I dont understand people that just hate everysong alltogether. I think its a pretty good album. Its not UTTAD/Crash/BTCS good, but its better than Everyday and Busted Stuff in my opinion.BigSpeen3436 wrote:My favorite part is when the CD ends.

I like Busted Stuff a lot, people dont really talk about it much anymore. I think I listen to it more than any other DMB album... and probably BTCS. I like pretty much all the new songs just based on those first little 40 second clips, except Wake Up. That sounded awful.jsgksu wrote:Im really starting to love this cd, the more I listen the more I like. I dont understand people that just hate everysong alltogether. I think its a pretty good album. There were a couple parts during the album that made me want to throw a brick at my computer (i.e. Carter's singing in ODH, Dave rapping on Smooth Rider...??!?!?! WTHF#!@!#) But there is something redeeming w/in those songs that ticked me off. I don't know, it was weird at first but I like the vibe that this one has. It's infectious.
edit: Ok, so what parts do I like then...there are a few short jams here and there that sound really tight. Also, the bridges that they wrote for some of these songs are so sweet. They may sound weird, but they are really sweet.
