Benaroya Hall- Which Guitar?

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Benaroya Hall- Which Guitar?

Unread post by M Morrel » Thu Oct 10, 2002 2:27 pm

So I got declined on WH ticketing  , but hopefully I'm still going to attend. Anyone have any idea what guitar he'll be using? He's been using the Taylor for all his solo gigs... the England shows, Bridge School, Farm Aid... but his latest performance here in Seattle (Old Growth Benefit), he played his Martin. Personally, I love hearing the Martin... I can certainly distinguish a different sound, and its almost an entirely different experience. I'm hoping he'll bring it out again on 10/24. What do y'all think?

I think the Taylor is an excellent guitar don't get me wrong(i have one), but I will always prefer my Martin...and I do think Dave sounds better with the martin as well...I also just friggin love that guitar he has at luther college though...man does that guitar sound good...isn't that a takamine(sp) or something like that....all and all he is the best with the CHET baby, although i don't think I'll ever get to see him play with that one again

He'll probably have more than one guitar at the solo show. With any luck we could see a variety of them used.

I saw him play at a radiostation when Everday was coming out and he brought two guitars for a half hour show (i believe one of them was a baritone acoustic).

I think the guitar in Luther College is the old Lakewood...[/i]

I think, if you have the luther college tab book, in the interview part he is holding a lakewood, but in the picture of him sitting in the chair with timmy next to him he has a takamine...That is of course if the picture was taken at luther college, peace

Chet rules when it comes to playing with a band (chet was my real first guitar and remains my primary over my Deluxe Les Paul 69'-also a great guitar), but imo a Taylor (714) can hols its own better than a Martin (thats my opinion). Does anybody know exactly what Dave uses on the Live At Luther College cd's? That guitar is awesome...of coure a lot of guitars sound great with the right equipment...so does anybody know the exact set-up that he used there?

I dunno... I've heard Dave play the Taylor solo twice now, plus on Groundworks. Then, last month when I heard the Martin (solo)... it just sounded SO amazing. Should be very interesting, whichever way he chooses to go. I'm sure there are other variables... such as... which (if any) of the other band members show up :D I'm hoping for Carter & Fonzie, but I'd take anyone!!

I may be a bit of a newbie. But can anyone give me a run through on which guitar is which ( of daves that is ). The one i have seen him with recently ( i am from Norway, so i have never seen him live ) is a Taylor ( 714 i think ). For example at Farmaid 2001 he played that guitar. Which is the morgan? Is that the one he uses in Storytellers? What about the Chet? Is that the black electric/accoustic guitar he uses in the "what would you say" video? Sorry for asking such stupid questions, but it is not always easy to tell which brand the guitar is from the videos..

cheers

Chet is indeed the black beauty that Dave used often years ago (coolest most easy to use guitar i have played yet): during the Listener Supported era and often used now, he plays his Taylors (for 6 string, he uses the 714, i forget the model # but for the 12 string, he plays that cool looking walnut Taylor). He uses his Martin often for solos etc.

I do'nt think that's a Taylor on Listener Supported, it doesn't have the cutaway. Or does he have a plain 'ole 714 as well as his 714ce's?

I'm 99.9% sure it is, i mean they have one that isn't a cutaway (check out the site...drool...i want one of each lol)! I also had a friend from a different Dave forum (guitar player) tell me all the specs on the Listener Supported thing.

On Listener Supported, Dave plays his signature Martin, the DM3MD. He used that for a while towards the end(maybe beginning) of 99. I believe that around mid-99 is when Dave decided to stop using the Chet. I say that time becuase I believe he uses a plain wood colored one at Woodstock......enjoy.....PEACE
