if you really were a beatles fan and had the info, that has nothing to do with Sgt Peppers. John never wrote a song about drugs until Cold Turkey, his first solo single about him and yoko quitting heroin.

Actualy, the main influence on the album was . . . the beach boys. Yep, their Pet Sounds album inspired John and Paul very much. Also, the beatles never wrote songs while on heavy drugs, or while they were recording (they only did a little weed and such, that's it). The few times they tried it, they just made crap. Also just so this doesn't get brought up, I'll answer it right now. Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds is about a picture young Julian Lennon drew. John loved the drawing, and wrote the song about it. Again, the beatles did not write drug songs.

Here's my repsonse.

In an interview published in this month's Uncut, Sir Paul admitted drugs "informed" much of the Beatles' music.

He said the song Got To Get You Into My Life was "about pot - although everyone missed it at the time", and Day Tripper was "about acid".

From Paul himself.

Here's the link from a BBC interview.

DO NOT BELIEVE FILMDUDE or RANTING THESPIAN when it comes to DMB/BEATLES history. You make think that statement is harsh, but I think it is completely wrong to make these statements that you so clearly stand behind, but they turn out to be bullshit.

Here's the full BBC link

Bottom line. Don't take everything they say as the truth. Ranting is completely wrong in this instance as he was with Machead.
good read

Don't let this get too personal. I just started this about him saying things that aren't true on more than one occasion.

I had a pic of Lennon chilling w/ some random hippies smoking a fat ass joint (had to be around 6 grams in that sucker) and in John's outreached, open hand was a small square of paper about an 1" x 1.5" (LSD tabs-probably around six hits).

The caption read something about "The Sunshine Acid Craze". def looked like it was from the pre yoko days n such. It was outta book called "spliffs" or something along those lines, sorry i dont have it any more so i cant give up the exact source for sure.

The book did mention that the beatles were more of "experimenters" rather than drug users. It said how the biggest influence drugs had on their music was the initial amazment of the new world that opened up from these substances, but were not much for bad habbits (I still call BS on that though).

whoever thinks the beatles and "drugs" do not have a history with eachother is either very naive or just completly unaware of the real world. but all that really matters is whether you appreciate their music or not, im not interested in people's opinons on drugs (well, mostly the negative ones, i never mind hearing about a good trip!)

Lennon became a heroin addict, so he was more than an experimenter, part of the reason for the "Let It Be" Sessions, not coming together smoothly was mainly indifference within the band, but also john being strung out on heroin

Great article. Your post does come across a little angry, but I find it funny because I tend to agree with you about the "know-it-all" attitude that sometimes comes across through probably well-meaning posts.

Take into account that it's difficult sometimes to convey a message through a forum post without being misperceived as being arrogant.

Thanks again for the link Jellyfish, I always enjoy reading your posts.

Peace,

C
