So now that I've been playing guitar long enough and can actually sing and play at the same time, I'd like to work on getting my voice up to par. I realize that this is not an overnight process and really the best way to do this is to get some vocal lessons but I'd really appreciate it if someone could take a lesson to this crappy recording (think powerbook built in microphone) and lend me some starting pointers. I've been trying to sing out more, from my diaphragm, not my throat and I feel like this recording is a step in teh right direction but short of where I'd want to be. So, could you take a quick listen and let me know what you think? Thanks!

your pitch isn't too bad, and that will get better with pratice. Sometimes the phrasing is a little off, like you aren't entirley confident of the melody. Your tone has alot of potential(reminds me of elliot smith). All I can say is keep on praticing, and record your self and do it often. You can learn alot by listening to your recordings.
Or you can listen to Kelly Joe Phelps advice, and:
"YOU KNOW WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO MAN,
GET NAKED AND SING IN YOUR BASEMENT AS LOUD AS YOU CAN, JUST GET
NAKED AND LET YOUR DICK FLAP AROUND IN THE WIND, EVEN IF YOU DONT
THINK YOU HAVE A SINGING VOICE, PEOPLE WILL LOOK BEYOND THAT IF YOU
REALLY MEAN WHAT YOU SING IF YOU FEEL IT"

Thanks for the input...yeah I've been recording myself for a while now and am starting to see some real results (you don't want to hear my first attempts, wow...they hurt). I'm glad to hear that i should just keep going along w/what i'm doing and that there is some hope (Elliott Smith is some high praise, I think he has a really cool, distinctive voice - among many, many other talents). Thanks again for listening.
