I've been trying some little chords out, and I figured out a good part that will go over the main riff well. So who are you going to send your file to first? Like, what order will the parts be put into the song?Roastbeef wrote:Cool! Just use your judgement...billywestom wrote:If you would like me to do a big solo type thing I could do that too.

here's what i can do to help...
if you let me mix it down, give all the tracks to me at once, and then i'll get hayden to put the bass down and then i will mix everything together...
and please listen to geekmug, do not put effects on the tracks, i'll take care of that on the mixdown

The way this has to work is one person has to do the main track, then someone adds a piece, then passes the entire thing to another person, and so on. This is because we don't know what the timing will be like, and no one knows how much one person will add to the song, or where. I suggest that Geekmug sends his file (just main guitar part) to Hillbilly, so he can add the lyrics. Then he can send the single file (now with lyrics) to someone else (say, the bass player) and he adds his. See what I'm saying?

I don't see how we can work on it already without a lead track to work over. Are we supposed to just play our part over the actual CD song, so we all have the same timing?

Hold on guys. Slow down. I know this thread is getting a bit long, but all your questions are answered here. Here is the current list of participants and in the order they will record. Again, those in green have completed their track and those in blue have confirmed they'll be doing this:billywestom wrote:I don't see how we can work on it already without a lead track to work over. Again, I will collect the raw tracks and distribute them to the next participant. I'm done and Trippin has the file. Once he's done he get it to me and I'll PM I'mWithFatjack with the URL for the tracks. He'll then provide his file and I'll continue on to the next. Now realize, these are raw tracks so volume levels may not be right, but they should provide the foundation necessary to add your track.
Here's an excerpt from one of my previous posts outlining how the rhythm was done and how to format your track:
When everyone is finished, I'll pass these to fatjack for the mix down. geekmug - you can fool with mixing them too if you want.Roastbeef wrote:As an FYI to everyone here's some info about my track:
The acoustic rhythm starts exactly at the 10 second mark. It was recorded while playing along with the Busted Stuff version, but I kept the rhythm going for an additional 30 seconds past when it fades out on the stuidio version for some additional jamming. I end with the F#/D. We might want to do a fade too, but we'll work that out on the mix down. I've cleaned up all noise to the best of my ability and added some compression. I did not EQ nor did I apply any reverb.
For eveyone else's track, please:
- Convert it to MP3 format.
- Start your track at 0:00.000 in relation to the rhythm guitar even if you will not be playing/singing for a few seconds/minutes so we can line all these up just by starting at 0 seconds.
- Provide as clean a file as possible. If you don't now how to do any noise reduction, etc., ask here and someone else can do it.
- Keep it dry, i.e. no effects or reverb.
Hope this clears things up...

No. Read above. I started it with the rhythm, Trippin will do a vocal track. He'll send his vocals to me and both will go to I'mWithFatjack. When he's finished, I send all three to geekmug, and on down the line...Coldchillin23222 wrote:So wait, we just send you just our part? Simple enough. It'd be nice to hear the other part though, for tempo

I totally understand now how we're gonna do this. But why doesn't each person put them all together as one track when they're finished...won't it get confusing sending four or five files to a person?Roastbeef wrote:No. Read above.
