I was hoping to try my hand at mixing it down, but you probably have more experience than I do. Perhaps I'll give it a whirl and if it sounds shitty you take a crack at it. I was just gonna amplify each track up or down accordingly and mix it in Cool Edit Pro. So, I was hoping each participant could provide a track that's as clean as possible. Do you have more specialized equipment/experience with this?

We still need an acoustic improv and I think a bass track would make it.
just make sure you have a good conversion program for the file... there may be different formats, and you probably wont be able to mix tracks that are recorded at different mHz levels...

Thanks fatjack. I was hoping people would simply provide them as MP3s. Probably not the best file format but it'll be easier to transfer around. I may be consulting with you when it comes time for the mix-down. Thanks again.

If I could, i'd also like to put in a background guitar, maybe just playing some arpegios and fills along with my trumpet

Don't really know what's goin on yet, but I'd like to get in on this with a little something. Let me know...Since I have no friends...

If you can get me all the tracks, I'd be more than glad to do the mix on it.. it'd be fun. I dunno what the plan was before, but if you are going to let me do the mix, then everyone needs to not put any efx like reverb on their tracks.. I would want them as dry as possible.

I've been playing sax for over 8 years now...and I actually have Grey Street written out for it on soprano, except you have a trumpet, which is in the same key and I figure he would be playing those parts anyway...

To be fair, let's just limit one contribution per participant. If this comes out decent we can do other songs.

Awesome! You're in!

We still need either electric leads or acoustic improv....

Looks like a few of us are interested in mixing this thing. How about the three of us (me, geekmug, and fatjack) work on this together? I can be the "keeper" of the tracks, i.e. host them and make arrangements for receiving the files and distributing them. Perhaps we can each do a mix and pick the best one to post here. Sound good?

Yeah, but it might be cool to have both. Perhaps you guys can work out how best to blend these?

Okay, here's an updated participant list and in what I think would be the best order for laying down the tracks.

Roastbeef: Acoustic Rhythm (6 String)
Trippin Hillbilly: Lead Vocals
I'mWithFatjack: Bass
geekmug: Drums
isaac: Background Vocals
billywestom: Improv? Leads?
PureDaveAddict: Trumpet
Coldchillin23222: Sax
juineaux: Mandolin

Suggestions are welcome. Can I just ask that everyone in the above list reply to this thread to confirm that they can do this (billywestom - are you in with one of the above suggestions?)? If everyone here can do this I think this is all we should have. It may become to much if we have more participants. I've done the rhthym track already and will PM Trippin with some info. He'll then get me his track and I'll then forward both to I'mWithFatjack, and so on and so forth.

As an FYI to everyone here's some info about my track:

The acoustic rhythm starts exactly at the 10 second mark. It was recorded while playing along with the Busted Stuff version, but I kept the rhythm going for an additional 30 seconds past when it fades out on the stuidio version for some additional jamming. I end with the F#/D. We might want to do a fade too, but we'll work that out on the mix down. I've cleaned up all noise to the best of my ability and added some compression. I did not EQ nor did I apply any reverb.

For eveyone else's track, please:
  • Convert it to MP3 format.
  • Start your track at 0:00.000 in relation to the rhythm guitar even if you will not be playing/singing for a few seconds/minutes so we can line all these up just by starting at 0 seconds.
  • Provide as clean a file as possible. If you don't now how to do any noise reduction, etc., ask here and someone else can do it.
  • Keep it dry, i.e. no effects or reverb.
Whew. Sound good to everyone? This is pretty cool, like a virtual band...

hey, if this works out, we should try writing a song! we need a name! LEFT NUT UNICYCLE CONDENSATION PARADE! ;)

um...yeah, i can do the background vocals. we'll see how it turns out, though. if the vocal track is pretty solid by itself, i'll just be a bystander and try to get in on some other stuff if this thing happens again. :)

Hey guys, This sounds like a great and fun little project! :D
I was wondering, do you think I could get in on this, and maybe do some electric? I was thinking maybe, do some clean doubling of the main riff some way, maybe some lead at the end.

Hopefully the spot had not been taken since the last update.

Thanks,
Cory

That sounds good guys. Looks like I'm in leads/improvs? That'll be perfect.

Hmm. Sure, go for it. My only concern is that the final product will be too busy with all these particpants, but hey, this is just for fun, right? Everyone just use your judgement to not play over each other too much. Each person should keep their contribution subtle and they all should compliment each other.

Yeah Billy, do up some improv. You'll be doing something on acoustic, I presume?

So here's the latest list in recording order (those in green have completed their track. Those in blue have confirmed they'll be doing this:

Roastbeef: Acoustic Rhythm (6 String)
Trippin Hillbilly: Lead Vocals
I'mWithFatjack: Bass
geekmug: Drums
isaac: Background Vocals
billywestom: Acoustic Improv
Cor: Electric Leads
PureDaveAddict: Trumpet
Coldchillin23222: Sax
juineaux: Mandolin

Yup Coldchillin23222. Go get that mic!

Yeah, perfect. I will be using an acoustic, and will just add some fills and that type of stuff...very subtle throughout the song. If you would like me to do a big solo type thing I could do that too.
