yeah, you need a pretty top of the line soundcard to record like that. it needs dual inputs and im not familiar with cool edit, but i assume it will need to be compatibe

As long as your sound interface is ASIO-compliant you should be able to.

You can do this very simply w/a cheap but good quality mixer like this one. Basically, all you have to do is plug your guitar into one channel and your mic into the other. Pan each hard left and right, respectively and then set, in Cool Edit, 2 tracks to record. Set one to record only the left channel and the other to record only the right. That should do it for ya. The cheap and easy way to multitrack. IM any questions to Devils08 or e-mail me at jordan@northwestern.edu

Yeah, you only have two channels but you could put all of the guitars on one channel and all of the mics on the other but you'd only be able to manipulate the pair of guitars as ONE waveform and the pair of vocals on another waveform. One thing you might be able to do is place one source (guitar or vocal) hard left, one hard right and one straight up the middle and record a third track in stereo. I know some vocal eliminators can take out everything besides the vocal track (which it does by taking everything out thats not straight up the middle - at least something like that, someone correct me if i'm wrong) and then you could edit the 3rd waveform so that its only the source that was straight up middle. But, still that is only 3 sources, would take some editing and may not even work, I'm just guessing. But isn't htat what the home studio is for...experimentation?
