nancies rhythm help

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

nancies rhythm help

for some reason i haven't been able to get the strumming pattern down for the verse part, the mute has just been screwing me up, ive watched videos and listened to a lot of recordings and still cant do it, id appreciate any help on it

just keep at it...try playing with all the recordings you have, over and over until you get it down.

but like whats the "down, up down, etc.." pattern, ive been trying to play the base then make an upstroke but im not even sure if thats correct

it's basically what i do...i pick the low E for accent then do up, down, etc. and just keep going with that. but i don't ever play with a pick, and my thumb goes all over the place. hehe. i'm sure someone else here can help ya better than i can. ;)

You need a pick to play nancies. the bass note (3)2x4-- and (2)x44-- is played with a down strum, but the middle notes 32x(4)-- and
2x(44)-- are played first with an upstroke and a couple of strumms. jkanters video gives you a pretty good picture of the strumming rhythm. Do not let the bass note or the middle notes resonate. You must mute them immediately after playing them.

This is what I do...

Just get your hand, more wrist than arm, going in an up down rythm then move it over the strings and work on playin the song without stopping your hand...

It wont sound right if you miss or hit a wrong stroke...

Helps me to do it that way on most of Dave's songs, plus I find it easier to add subtle playing characteristics later on...

I do what davy28 does...i just started playing this song a couple days ago and the strumming just came naturally. so i dunno, i guess try and listen to davy but also do whats comfortable.

it doesnt need to be exactly right you know, just listen to it and sign otu what you think you hear with it.. and then if its off a bit its ok.. just play it so it suits your style
