How the hell can anyone really judge the new album before it's released?

Anyway, I don't like to jump to conclusions without knowing the facts, I do know I don't like American Baby, as I find it boring and lacking the swelling choruses that make DMB so damn good.
by the clips for all the songs that were leaked
I love the boards, I stay away for a day and there are clips released that I don't even know about.

I'll check it out.

Peace,

C

I guess I understand a little bit more about what Dave meant when he said "we didn't work that hard" in the latest new album video on the official site. These "clips" sound very thrown together and the riffs don't seem to jive at all, it's almost like there are just bits and pieces of riffs and progressions just thrown in there like "who gives a fuck?"

These clips sound like Dave singing along with another band entirely. I'm not impressed. Hopefullly upon listening to the real cuts for a bit in their entirety my feelings will change.

Damn.

i posted this in the other thread but i think it got skipped over by another conversation. basically, stop complaining about this album. it sounds like a different band? it's not. the band is evolving. its not a producers fault if a band sounds different. hes not holding a gun up to their heads saying "make bad music." ultimatley, the band has say in what goes and what doesn't.

*edit: this is the other post i was refferring to:

Code: Select all

My favorite music quote ever is by the one and only Page McConnel. In reference to a 15 minute jam, he says that if a jam had never gone on for the first 5 minutes, ten minute, 15 minutes, eventually once it hits that point at 17 18 20 minutes, you realize that if you hadn't endured for those first minutes, you would have never reached that point musically, that the music would have never have existed. I think this can be applied to bands as well. I think some people are bummed out because this new stuff doesn't sound like the "old Dave." Well, I think if the Dave Matthews Band hadn't have sticked around for those 13 or however many years they've been together, that they wouldn't have reached this point musically. Bands are always evolving, and lets face it, theyve been in the spotlight for a while, and they are all older men. I think theyre finally coming to the point where theyve found their sound, and if they hadnt stuck with it all these years they never would have come to this.

It may sound like im rambling, but what im trying to say is, all the stuff we refer to as classic Dave is just an evolution of sorts of their music to the point where they can finally say theyve found their sound.

Ladies and Gentelmen, i think we have on our hands (well not yet ) musically one of the greatest albums if not the greatest this band has ever made. How can I say that without hearing it? I think that because theyve endured so much, I can trust that this band of musical phenoms only gets better with time.

Plus I just think it's fun to get excited about the new album. :)
It's good to get excited about an album but when everyone starts saying.........this is crap..........stupid rap producer.........dmb will never be the same..... it will affect your perception of the album when you first hear it. I'd just rather have a fresh listen.

and to whoever said this thread sucks, you suck
I said the same thing yesterday. It gets annoying when a 15 year old says DMB will never be the same when they weren't even born when they first started playing. But, I have to say I listened to the clips & enjoyed what I heard so far, but will obviously have a better judgment after I hear it live & on the album.
