What You are
What You are
I love playing this song. Has anybody ever covered it before. Im thinking about playing this out one night along with "I Did it".
Does anybody else like playing those two songs? I think they are my two favorite to play at the moment.
BTW, I play them in standard cause it sounds fine.

Not really difficult. I heard the Lost acoustics versions of these songs (Thanks Jayme) and I fell in love with them when they are played acoustic.CWMCALL wrote:I don't think I have ever even looked at the tabs for either of these songs. Are they difficult?
I can host them if you want. Let me know.
I have the lost acoustics I guess I just haven't payed much attention to these two songs. Thanks for the heads up.jellyfish wrote:Not really difficult. I am listening to "What you Are" right now
Just play them standard. It sounds extremely close to the baritone way of playing it. Only critical asses would flame you for NOT playing it in baritone tuning.

I love to pull out what you are, and just build it till it's harder than dmb gets in the end. And in the outro, I tend to swear a lot (using the f word many times). Still doesn't compare to my Halloween version
(that one has scared people stiff, lol . . . I play it death metal style on my les paul cranked up over "eleven").
I Did It is fun to play, but really I love the Space Between.

Screw the baritone tuning. I feel that most of us play in our bedrooms and don't need to be perfect. The standard tuning has very little sound variation from the baritone. And I would $1,000 that a DMB fan with no guitar knowledge would be able to tell the difference. The only reason I know he plays a baritone guitar is because of this message board. I just dont care about the raised b & baritone tunings, I stick to the standard way.mlb1399 wrote:I'm glad you brought this thread up. I have been thinking about playing it but don't have the first clue how to baritone tune. So you say it sounds really good in standard as well?
Great song but "I did it" is pretty fun to.
IM not a space between guy. i love the song whne the band plays it but Im not to keen on the acoustic version. In my opinion it is one of Dave's worst written guitar songs. i say that because everything he plays he always adds that percussive element making it sound more than what it is. The song doesn't have that, therefore I say the above mentioned.Ranting Thespian wrote:I love to pull out what you are, and just build it till it's harder than dmb gets in the end. Now when you say you play it in standard tuning, do you mean you play teh same frets dave would on his baritone, so it ends up being a 4th too high? Or do you just transpose it down. You can easily make it the same notes as a baritone guitar by playing all the frets one string lower, except for the ones that work around the 2nd string, since this one is off by a half, you have to make a minor adjustment. If you do this, it is the same notes and I do not see how someone could say it isn't the same song dave plays. I am not a "i did it" fan, played it a few times because it is easy to pick up, but it lost its thrill. But "what you are" is still so much fun. By the way, the thing I wrote in the beginning was referring to "what you are"
I take what I said back. I play by musical notes for the most part, not tab since I learned music on a saxaphone where tab doesn't really exist. Anyway, in the chorus when he says "have", the lowest not in the chord is a low D, making this the only note in the whole song that can not be found on a regular tuned guitar.
Dude, I just got the standard tab off of this site. I've got no musical knowledge & I love this site cause you guys do all the hard work for me.
I try to pay back by offering media on my site. Kind of a fair trade.
But, yeah nobody really talks about playing those two songs. I also like playing Fool to Think on the acoustic.
