Re: Looking for midrange acoustic electric
Now are you saying that you only $400-$500 to spend in total. Unless you already have an amp, that will cause a couple hundred dollars extra. So that leads me to more questions:steveostyle wrote:Looking for a mid-range acoustic electric in the 400-500 dollar range. Any suggestions?
1. do you already have an amp?
2. Is this your first, second, etc. guitar?
3. If you don't have an amp, why do you want a midrange accoustic electric?
4. What are you using this guitar for?
5. Do you have the ability to save for a few months to buy a better guitar?
Takamines are pretty good guitars and they usually fall in that range. I own a Dean Exotica BB for my accoustic electric and have been real happy with it http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/sea ... /src=01340
If you can save up a few hundred more dollars then you can get some of the lower range Martin guitars which I think are a great value. Not because of the name, but because of the quality and the sound.
Anyways, your best bet is just to go into a few different music stores and play around with some guitars in that price range and find a guitar that feels comfortable, looks the way you want it to, and sounds good.
If this doesn't help, then there are tons of threads with advice.
ill assume 400-500 for the guitar and then i will recommend buying a michael kelly or takamine and then i will suggest putting in yo own pickup at a later date

Re: Looking for midrange acoustic electric
Thanks a lot for the response. Yes I do have an amp, it's my brothers and he's just giving it to me. I've been playing when I can for about two years, and have taught myself. I consider myself to be intermediate in terms of skill, I can play most DMB songs more or less. I do think I'll be buying a lower-end Martin, like the DX-1. Does anyone have any experience with this?mlb1399 wrote:Now are you saying that you only $400-$500 to spend in total. Unless you already have an amp, that will cause a couple hundred dollars extra. And for the love of god, go to a guitar shop and practice on a shit load of different guitars and find one you like.
I dont suggest putting a pick up in later. If you have the amp now just get a good all around CE

OR look for a sweetass used taylor 300, 400 or 500 series. You can get real lucky and find amazing ones around 600, which is SWEET considering the 310 lists for like 1200.
I love Taylors, and not cause of the name. I am a huge fan of a singing tone with a nice bass attack but not an overwhelmingly "bassy" and muddy sound, and that is what Taylors do best!

you can most definately get a new larrivee for under $900. In fact, if you're paying $900 for any of their 03 series you're getting a bad deal. I bought my L-03R new for $700 it was a blem but I was quoted $790 for a non blem. The mahog versions are even less expensive. I picked up my D-02 used off of Ebay for $350.praisedave wrote:i meant used too, you cant even get them for under like 900 new. used is like 600 bottom end.checkii wrote:I meant used, my bad, but I thought they had a low end for $500. oh well.praisedave wrote:you cant get a larri for under 600, thats what i love about em!checkii wrote:get a
