thats what id like to do, but i dont think a "By posting your song here you agree not to sue us" is legally binding.mbgreen wrote:Most people with originals worth listening to already have a cd available. Sorry, but most of this board's originals really suck or they are just ok. Not something I'd pay for.
And almost nobody is going to take the time to sign something and scan it in, and it's just more trouble than it's worth.
Stick with the official covers contest, and torrent/host or whatever via volunteers. You're making this much too complicated for it to work. It has to be simple.
Listen up all recording peoples...

but brock says that covers require paperwork and fees. thats not simple either... ergh... i wanna make this happen.mbgreen wrote:It's not. when i was thinking of this i was remembering the ohio loop solo contest. that was a great contest and the things pat an ben did were terriffic. we could even try and write simple tunes and then let people loop them and add to them. that would avoid any kind of paperwork, but we're back to the problem with the whole suing thing

Actaully we have to fill out a bunch of paperwork and some fees even if we giving it away for free. Getting the mechanical license from the harry fox agency should be easy enough.mbgreen wrote:Covers will only require paperwork and fees if you're selling them. We could easily put together a cover compilation, but it would have to be distributed free.
btw-
I'm already a member of cdbaby so we could go through them for digital distrubution if we wanted too. Sounds like a fun project, and I'm willing to help in any way-
kanter? any thoughts? i know you've been reading, you're omniscent.

I think it'd be cool to set up the "CD" as a site. Have several contests for individual dave covers and then when we have 14 or so we can put up the "Best of DMBtabs.com Cover Site" where we can have all the winning covers listed for people to download and enjoy. We can direct all our friends and family there to show off
We could say that you can participate in as many song competitions as you want but you can only win one of them...that way we get a wide variety of people and takes on dave songs.
