wrist problems

Unread post by slee8251 » Sat Apr 09, 2005 4:23 pm

Hi, I have been playing guitar for about 4 years now and about a year or two ago, i started to develop this lump on my wrist that i think can from my playing. When i touch it, it doesnt hurt but when i rest my hand flat on a surface like doing a push up, there is a slight discomfort. Anyone else have this problem or know exactly what that "lump" is... ?

hahaha, i had this exact same thing

its called a gangleon cyst (no sure of the spelling there). i dont think its from guitar playing. i developed mine after a training season of nothing but 50m bear crawls.

i had it surgically removed, but there is also an option of getting it drained or something. and apparently there is a chance of it coming back, but i haven't had any problems

smack it with a book. swear to god it disperses it. theres no way to keep them from coming back, but just keep on smacking them with a book.

if its a cyst, yes, smacking it DOES work.
Worked for my brother... but it was on the back of his neck.

see i wouldnt recommend smacking someone in the neck with a book. but it does work. my dad does it all the time. (he also cuts his own moles out with a pocketknife, but the book thing is legit)

okay, i just had a test on this EXACT thing....it's called a wrist Ganglion..
it's not anything to worry about....
its an accumulation of fluid under a tendon, and the fluid expands and is surrounded by a tendon sheath....creating the contained 'lump'

it limits range of motion in most cases. but after a while it will either
go away on its own
or
it will get a bit harder....be somewhat point tender, and then go away on its own

it used to be called "bible cyst" because they used to hit it witha bible and it made it go away. but i dont recommend that. it WILL go away on its own

no worries
