if you already have a "starter" guitar and you have been playing for 2 years already, save some more money and get a solid wood guitar. I think filmdude got a solid takamine recently that he is very happy with for around 350 or 400. Plus, there are a LOT of real tak supporters here, and I am sure a few would share their love for their instrument with you.

if I was to chose around 400 for a guitar that is for an intermediate player, yes alvarez or taks. I personaly like Taks more, though.

I have one and I adore it. It's a little out of the $400 range though. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=h ... id/516368/
I've played that one and it is one Hell of a deal. At $450 or so, you start getting electronics and cutaways. That'd be a fantastic starter instrument in my opinion.

GORGEOUS! My dad doesn't like the cutaway styles and he prob doesn't need electronics. He just wants something to play some blues and beatles tunes on and maybe, next year or something, jam with some of his buddies from work (THEN he will need the electronics)

We are also not married to the $400 price range. I can get another 100 and my sis and bro can combine for another 100 so we can conceivably do $600....but for $299, that one is amazing.

Thanks
